To: Evergreen Discussion Group

The Reports Interest Group will meet Wednesday, February 7th at 2 PM
Eastern. Please note, this deviates from our regularly scheduled meetings
the last Wednesday of the month.

In this meeting, I will be discussing some tables available in the auditor
schema and how they can be queried to answer some common troubleshooting
questions. This meeting will mostly be geared toward Evergreen support
staff and administrators who have read-only (or higher) access to their
Evergreen database, but end users might also find it useful to learn what
kinds of questions their support providers can assist with using these
tables.

Meeting details, including connection information, can be found here:
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen-reports:meetings:2024-02-07

Hope to see you there!

There’s a curious (if not perhaps a little rude) note at the bottom of
the page that states: “There is an Evergreen API that supports automatic
harvesting of your collection. However, we were unable to obtain a complete
harvest for any customers during the testing of this functionality, as
Evergreen’s Web Services API was not built for such a wide-scale
application. We discourage Evergreen customers from utilizing this feature
 for collection harvesting.”

Additionally, on their KB page for the feature (
 https://eis1.my.site.com/ebsco/s/article/ILS-Export-for-NoveList-Products-and-Features?language=en_US),
we can see some handy older screenshots of what I presume to be the old
non-browser client. Combining that with the statement above about “during
the testing of this functionality,” I’m presuming this was tested with
EBSCO/Novelist at some point but that there hasn’t been an update to it
since the browser client rolled out.

There’s a slew of questions about this in my mind… the first being if
what’s written here is accurate about the Evergreen API method of
harvesting collection information not being robust enough (which generates
an immediate follow up – what would make it robust enough?). But I’m also
curious about the collective wisdom of the community about these
strategies. We’re moving toward a Lean-based purchasing model wherein
selectors will have a daily cap of titles to order so as not to create a
wave for shipping/receiving folks to drudge through later. Real-time
availability of holdings information would be a huge boon in supporting
both Lean purchasing strategies AND maximizing Novelists’ effectiveness for
reader’s advisory. However, if uploading holdings records is just the best
way of doing it due to the performance of the API as-is or the time/money
needed to extend it, then we’ll go that route instead – whatever delivers
 the best, most

Hi Dan,

Last year, we needed to disable OTS for all libraries using it temporarily
because it was causing major issues with availability. However, at the
beginning of the year, we were able to do some testing with EBSCO and they
rolled out some changes to our implementation that seemed to resolve the
issue. I had assumed this meant they would be able to make those changes
for other Evergreen sites. I can check in with the individual we worked
with there and see if those changes are widely available, and if the
documentation can be updated if so.

Thanks,

Re: [Evergreen-general] Purging Holds

Hi Joan,

Bibliomation purges hold one year post fulfillment or cancellation
currently. If a patron has elected to save their hold history, their holds
are not purged. I see this in action on a test account I have been using
for several years.

Hope that helps!

Re: [Evergreen-general] SMS notice bounce backs

2023-02-03 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
I have attached output from our config.sms_carrier table, for all active
carriers. Keep in mind that for smaller carriers, the gateway may vary by
region.

Re: [Evergreen-general] SMS notice bounce backs

2023-02-03 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
Apologies for chiming in late to this thread - I wanted to have at least
one person with the carrier listed test our notices before I made any
claims!

We started noticing difficulties with sending notices to certain carriers
last year. Somehow, we got the idea to try converting the SMS gateway to
the MMS gateway. That seemed to work for the carrier that was giving us
issues, so we made the change for all of our gateways. I haven't heard of
any issues since we made that change. I can't claim that this will be a
perfect or permanent solution, but it may be worth a try. If anyone would
like to see how we have our carriers set up currently, I'd be happy to
share.

[Evergreen-general] Reports Interest Group Next Meeting Rescheduled to Thursday, January 26th

2023-01-23 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
Hi all,

In anticipation of some bad weather in my area on Wednesday, I've
rescheduled the Reports Interest Group meeting from Wednesday the 25th to
Thursday the 26th. I hope everyone who would normally be there can still
make it, but if not, we will be using the Evergreen community Zoom account
for the first time and will record the meeting.

We will be discussing using and testing the Simple Reporter with real world
data, and may even do some real-time testing with production data if time
allows.

The meeting agenda is available here:
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen-reports:meetings:2023-01-25

(Note the URL still has the old date).

Re: [Evergreen-general] Evergreen Cataloging Interest Group -- December Notes / Recording Available

2022-12-14 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
Hi Jennifer,

The branches for the dev I did are now available. Here are the bugs so you
can add the links to the notes:

Checkdigit fix: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1814966
Item tag scoping to owning library fix:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1965447

Duplicate barcode prevention was already there, I didn't do anything with
that.

Also, I submitted a branch for a fix that would allow empty call numbers,
but it looks like that may not be necessary based on the group's
discussion. I removed the pullrequest tag and added a needsdiscussion tag:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1998494

Thanks and happy holidays to all!

Jessica

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd reply here with what we figured out about this, in case
anyone runs across a similar issue. Because the icon is included in the
first language wrapper, the msgid and msgstr for the example Gina provided
is as follows:

msgid " [_1]Items Checked Out"
msgstr " [_1]Títulos Prestados"

Hope that helps someone else, we were stumped for a while!

Hi Elizabeth,

I don't think it's possible to get the source name only. The closest you
can get is to add the data column under Template and then look up what the
"core_class" value represents in fm_IDL.xml. We can talk about that at the
meeting if you like.

The Evergreen Reports Interest Group will meet this Wednesday, April 27th.
Andra Buntz Neiman of Equinox Open Library Initiative will be joining us to
discuss the Simple Reporter interface slated for release with Evergreen 3.9!

We'll also follow up from the last meeting with results from the template
that was shared last month, to see the most used templates in your library
or consortium (see the post here
,
thanks again, Allison!). We're asking folks to build this template and run
a report to help prioritize templates that should be shared on the wiki. If
you have a chance to build and run it before the meeting, you can send your
results to the reports discussion list (

Diane, did you see the video I linked about merging in Marketplace? This is
what we're recommending to libraries. If you're using barcodes to
authenticate, then the "user id" is the barcode and it works the same way.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Old Barcode/Username Change

2022-01-27 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
Just want to offer some clarification. Before Bibliomation's upgrade to
3.6.5, if a patron's username matched their inactive barcode, they could
still log into the OPAC, but the old barcode wouldn't work even though it
was their username (I think because of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1255561). After the upgrade, if
their username was an old inactive barcode, they could not login at all in
the TPAC version of the OPAC, even with their new barcode. We tested this
on a test system we have running the Bootstrap OPAC, and the behavior is
the same as it was in TPAC prior to our upgrade (they could log in with the
new barcode but not the old one). Some community members generously tested
this on TPAC running a later version, but were not able to replicate what
we were seeing. So, we need to make sure there isn't some customization or
unique configuration we're running that's causing this, but since we're
going to be transitioning to Bootstrap eventually anyway and it's not a
problem there, we felt a short term solution might be best. So, we wrote
some SQL to update usernames of the affected patrons to their new barcodes.

Our consortium only uses barcodes to authenticate to OverDrive, so they
still would have had a problem logging into that service. We have learned
that some of our libraries just leave the old barcode as active so they can
continue to use it for OverDrive. The other option is that you can merge
user IDs in OverDrive Marketplace (video on this here:
https://resources.overdrive.com/merging-user-ids/).

It seems like it should have worked with that cancel cause, but maybe you

 Hi Diane and Debbie,

I think you'll want the SendEmail reactor, and a template that will
generate an email similar to other SendEmail A/T event definitions.
There is a stock A/T event definition with an ID of 53 that implements
this that may exist and be disabled, and if so, you can clone it and
 adjust as needed.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Hold Cancelled Notification

2021-12-17 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
Hi Diane,

This notice would only trigger if the hold was canceled because the expire
time passed. So the way to test it would be to set the expire time (note
that this is different from shelf expire time, there is another action
trigger template for that) on your hold to today and see if the notice
generates when your daily notices run.

Hope that helps,

Jessica

Re: [Evergreen-general] [External] Issues with Hatch and Chrome

2021-12-09 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
Just reporting back, the issue for persisted for the library that reported
this problem a few days ago after clearing cookies at my recommendation. We
ended up deleting the C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Google folder and
that solved the problem. We were seeing that the eg.workstation and
eg.workstation.all and eg.workstation.default were being stored in Hatch
even after clicking "Move Hatch settings to local storage." Unfortunately,
I wasn't able to confirm that we were seeing the same messages from the
logs, but the symptoms are the same as what Bob described.

Re: [Evergreen-general] Issues with Hatch and Chrome

2021-12-08 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
Hi Bob,

What version of Evergreen and what version of Hatch? Can you verify that
"Store settings in Hatch" is not enabled?

We're on Evergreen version 3.5.5 and Hatch 0.3.2. We find that clearing
cookies and having the library re-register the workstation usually resolves
odd workstation issues like this. We had a library report an issue with the
same symptoms the other day (though I did not dive into the Hatch logs) and
that was what I recommended. I haven't heard back from them yet on whether
it was successful - I'll report back either way.

Thanks,
Jessica

Re: [Evergreen-general] Transits

2021-09-09 Thread Jessica Woolford via Evergreen-general
Laura, you're correct - the checkin staff and workstation is only recorded
if the item was previously checked out and the checkin is ending a
circulation. It would, however, record the staff that put the item into
transit as the last editing user since that staff member effectively
changed the status, presuming no other changes have been made to the item
in the meantime. That info is available in the column picker as well. We
recently created a report template that filters on item status and the home
library of the last editing user. If "In Transit" was chosen as the copy
status when the report is run, this should get you the information you're
looking for in most cases. Here are the columns and filters used for the
report:

Columns: Shelving Location, Circ Modifier, Call Number, Author, Title, TCN
Value, Status, Item Barcode, Publication Year, Creation Date, Active Date,
Last Circulation Date, Copy Status Change Date/Time, Last Edit Date/Time,
State Circ Code, Price, Total Circulation Count, Last Editing Staff Username
Filters: Not Deleted, Copy Status Changed Date (between), Owning Library
(in list), Copy Status (in list), Last Editing User Home Library (in list)

I hope that helps!
Jessica

after that.
Currently circulating books: Copies defined as "language material" in the
MARC record that have been circulating for 3 months
Recently Published: A badge for titles that were published in the last 6
months. More weight is given to titles published in the last month,
decreasing every month after that.

Our libraries really wanted us to focus on raising new materials to the top.

Let me know if you would like any more information!
