[Evergreen-general] Hold Notices Once per Day?

Are there any libraries/consortia that are sending hold notices via email
once per day?  We received a request from one library to do this to help
consolidate staff effort in gathering the holds together.  Are there any
unintended side effects from having them sent once per day besides
potential frustration from the patrons?

[Evergreen-general] Minors and Self Registration

Hi Everyone,

I had a conversation with a library director in regards to the self
registration page.  I know that there is support in developing a
customizable page, but in the meantime, I wanted to ask how other
libraries/consortia handle minors wanting to self-register for cards.

I have mentioned to this director that we can add a DOB, but the main
problem is having an actual acknowledgement of the library policy to
protect minors given the current climate in regards to censorship.  This I
completely understand, and I'm interested in your replies of how
Evergreen can address this issue if possible.

This is a reminder that on March 1, early bird registration for the 2024
Evergreen Conference will close and then will go to full registration

The preconference has a fixed cost at $55 for a day pass, but you can pay

Thank you for everyone's patience!  We are proud to announce the full
schedule for the 2024 Evergreen International Online Conference and

We had so many volunteer for presentations and we appreciate everyone who
has submitted their proposals. Please note that outside of the Circulation
and Consortial Leaders Interest Groups, all other interest groups will be
meeting at Hackfest held on Thursday, April 25, which is a free event.
Hackfest information will be posted soon.

This is also a reminder that the regular conference early bird special at
$60 will end March 1 and full rate will apply afterwards.  You can click

Pre-conference registration is also available starting today!  We are
offering two rates for the pre-conference this year: $30 for one session

Because this is an older ticket, I think it needs to be brought into an
email chain to continue discussion.

Basically, the labels of the links within admin pages don't actually match
the headers in the specific pages themselves.  I would like to work on part
of the bug, but there needs to be a general agreement on if we should
change the link or the headers.

Personally, I would suggest changing the headers for now because I'm more
used to how the links refer to the pages, and the documentation, for the
most part, refers to the link labels over the page headers.

[Evergreen-general] Inventory Guns

Hi All,

Has anyone had experience setting up SIP protocols for inventory guns?  We
have one library interested in doing this soon.  It runs on WiFi and was
made from a company that also offers RFIDs.  I imagine the protocol would
be the same but just wanted to check in with the community to see if anyone
has done a project like this before we offer it.

We have a very strong amount of cataloging and acquisitions programs with
some end user friendly ideas.  We could use some topics lead by
developers/for the technical audience.  General audience topics are always
welcome, too.

I did just send an email to the dev list on a proposal idea to discuss
Redis.  Outside of that, it looks like a very interest group and cat/acq
friendly conference this year!

Hi Katie,

I let Ruth and Galen know I won't be attending the meeting tomorrow; we
have an important internal meeting going on at Bibliomation.

I know that Galen wants to look over the Pheeploop agreement once more
because the agreement they sent me includes up to two years of access on
the platform.

The only other note is an adjustment in the budget.  We discovered we can
save around $2,000 if we go with a different package of captioning services
that SyncWords Live offers, and the cataloging interest group proposed we
use any money saved to bring in Mike Reese from Marc Edit.  So I edited the
captioning quotation and slotted out another quotation under the keynote
honorarium for another guest speaker.  I don't know if that needs board
approval or not, but it should be mentioned.

Sorry that I'm throwing this at everyone at the last minute!  Let me know
if you have any questions.

[Evergreen-general] Syndetics

Hi All,

Syndetics basically upgraded their discovery layer, but based on our OPAC
(been on Bootstrap for a while), we need to add a Javascript tag to our
bibliographic template in order to get the next upgrade.

Does anyone use Syndetics Unbound and where did you add your tag to?  I may
have some more follow-up questions; we haven't worked with a discovery
layer.

This thread was discussed at the Documentation Interest Group today.  I
submitted an LP bug ticket on this and assigned this to myself to work on
soon:  https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/2022100

If you can move the discussion and any important things that were already
brought up as comments in the bug, it'd be much easier for the team to
track.

If you happen to have any local documentation that you wrote up on this
that you want to send to me, you can absolutely do that off list.  It'd be

[Evergreen-general] 2024 Online Conference Committee - Call for Volunteers

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for your patience in follow-up announcements for the 2024
conference.

Reps from the conference committee and the standing committee met with the
EG Board last week to confirm the vote for an online conference next year.
A date hasn't been selected yet so please keep posted!

This is a call for volunteers interested in joining our conference
committee!  There are many roles you can do as a committee volunteer such
as running our social media, helping with organizing the program schedule,
moderating presentations, creating graphics for announcements, and more!

If interested, please send a reply off list, and I'll get your information
added to the committee email list.  Our first meeting will be Tuesday, June
20 at 12 pm Central/1 pm Eastern.

[Evergreen-general] Translation Wrappers in base.tt2

Hi All,

I'm finalizing our translation for the OPAC (Bootstrap), and I had a
question about the wrapper format in this
file: Open-ILS/src/templates-bootstrap/opac/parts/myopac/base.tt2

Here's an example:

{children => 3, parent => "parent",url => "circs", text => l(" [_1]Items
Checked Out", ctx.user_stats.checkouts.total_out), name =
l("Circulations")},

This file is in regards to the headers in the my opac menu seen in the
attachment.

I have the strings translated in the es-ES.po file that refers to the path
file above, but I'm not seeing the translation in the GUI.  Is it possible
that the format of the wrappers is causing this issue?  If so, would anyone
know how it should be formatted?  I tried different variations but couldn't
get anything to stick.

Here is the master list for library settings which is still under a lot of
construction.  This afternoon, I'll edit this given the suggestions that
were mentioned during the meeting yesterday.  So far I have probably half
of the list Jennifer Pringle has sent me so there is still time to submit
whichever working list you want to email me:

I'll be adding columns for version notes, LP tickets if applicable, and
putting the default values in a separate column as well.

The plan is to have a working version we can "sign off" on before I submit
this to a future new dev meeting.  Aiming for December for now.

building).  The main focus of our discussion will be patron data extraction
such as phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, etc.

Obviously, this is a privacy concern and we wanted to ask if other
consortia/libraries have this experience.  Do you have pickup lockers?  Do
you have some kind of policy in place with patron data extraction?  Love to
know your thoughts.

[Evergreen-general] 2022 Conference Call to Program Proposals

The call to the 2022 Evergreen Conference program proposals is now open!

The conference committee will be accepting pre-conference proposals until
Monday, April 4, and regular conference proposals until Friday, April 15.

You may notice that we now have half-hour and hour-long sessions available
so shorter presentations are most welcome!  Evergreen interest groups,

hour-long sessions then remaining slots will be scheduled on a first come
first serve basis.

[Evergreen-general] 2022 Conference Registration is Now Open!

Registration for the 2022 Evergreen International Online Conference is now
open!  The conference will be held June 13-16 on Hopin.  Share ideas,
projects, and everything Evergreen in our sessions and discussion groups.
The theme for 2022 is Shaping Our Future.

Early bird (February 22 - April 18): $55
Preconference (February 22 - June 13): $50
Regular registration (April 19 - June 16): $75

Sorry, all on the Evergreen discussion page!  I sent this to the wrong

It's supposed to go to our consortium's Evergreen list.  This is a
Bibliomation situation we're fixing.

That's a good question.  The eresources accounts are handled differently so
changing the username in Evergreen won't affect those accounts.  The patron
would need to enter the new barcode anyway in order to gain access.  If the
username isn't filled out to the current barcode, they will be blocked from
using the OPAC.

[Evergreen-general] Old Barcode/Username Change

Hello Everyone,

We contacted library directors individually on Friday with information on
the issue some patrons were experiencing logging in through the OPAC.  In
short, older barcodes that were saved as their usernames needed to be
changed to their current barcode in order to gain access.  Today we have
globally changed all the affected patrons to have their usernames reflect
their current barcode.

We produced shared buckets for each library to keep track of the affected
patrons for your records.  If you would like your shared bucket ID, please
email me off list.

Thank you most of all for your patience during this situation.  A reminder
that when you are replacing a barcode, please replace the username if the
username isn't set to a unique field that the patron requested.

There is a Library Setting in Local Admin that determines the delay.
Search for 'Hold Shelf Delay' and it'll pop up.

We have this in place at Bibliomation but it's not as common to see the
status.
