Ok, it's definitely ALSA. I performed a "/etc/init.d/alsasound restart"
(which includes, among other, removing the ALSA modules from the running
kernel and then reinserting them) and that fixes the problem.
Probably alsa-0.9.0rc3 does not work well with Red Hat 8.0
I'll try 0.9.0rc5 and see how it

I've installed these RPMs (alsa-kernel-0.9.0rc5
i686,alsadriver-0.9.0rc5,alsalib-0.9.0.0rc5,alsautils-0.9.0rc5)But
i still cannot get sound. The output of 'dmesg' is "CS4236+
soundcard not found or device busy".
I check at
"/lib/modules/2.4.18-17.8.0/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236.o"
the driver
Thanks for the speedy reply guys,

Hello. Is there a GPL soft synth similar to Juno6 which is open source

Ah. It looks like you don't actually have the driver for the audio chip
onboard your TV card loaded.
First off, look at the output from dmesg after loadin
I have three audio devices: one ice1712 device, one usb-audio device,
and one usb-midi device. The ice1712 is my primary audio device, the
usb-audio device is a microphone, and the usb-midi device is simply a
2-channel midi input.
Unfortunately, the usb-midi device seems to be taking precedent ove

I have a Soundblaster32 ISA PnP card that does not seem to want to
work with ALSA. The card is functional as it works fine in Windows
(as much as I hate to use Windows as a benchmark of functionality).
With Linux/ALSA, the card is on interrupt 9 and in Windows, it's on
interrupt 5. I want to try

I find this quite interesting, as I had the same problem with VIA VT8235. Has
anyone here had success with this chip, or are we the on
I also had low sound volume with my intel-8x0 card, even with Master and
PCM controls at maximum. For some obscure reason, I was able to fix it
putting the _Headphones_ control at maximum. Try it and let me know...
