I started with suse 7.1, upgraded the kernel then upgraded to 2.4.21 and
tried to get 0.9.4 alsa to work
I compiled alsa-driver with ./configure --with-isapnp=yes
-with-sequencer=yes -with-oss=yes
and I get (dmesg)
isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards...
isapnp: SB audio device quirk - increasing port
I am running Red Hat 8.0 (a 2.4.18-14 kernel) with KDE on a SE440BX-2, Celeron 300A box that has an onboard Yamaha YMF-740c DS-1L PCI Audio Controller. This uses the ymfpci drivers under OSS/Free and ALSA. I am trying to switch from the default OSS drivers to ALSA to use some sequencing software
HELP!
I compiled alsa-driver-0.9.4, and it did not create /etc/asound.state.
Nothing seems to work without this file. I have tried making a blank
file as /etc/asound.state, and that has not worked. I hove not been
able to find any substatial information online regarding this file.

I don't _think_ there's a difference. All the analog outputs are wired to
drive (or amp) headphones.

Hi,
my probem is, that the configure-script is stopt, by saying gcc 3.3 is not gcc
3.3.
I attach the output of the configure-script to the mail, if i use
./configure --with-oss=yes --with-card=cmipci
I use kernel 2.4.21, alsa 0.9.4 and gcc 3.3.
This problem does not occur by alsa version < 0.
Just to mention: problem solved.
Recompiling with sound support as module (perhaps this made a
diference??), recompiling the whole ALSA, re-installing, rebooting. Now
it works.
Apologies for the noise I generated and thanks for those who sent fast
replies.

Hello,
I have a TurtleBeach SantaCruz. I can't get my headphones to work on
the headphone(black) plug. They only work on the front (green) plug.
Also, how do I configure the SantaCruz's "VersaJack"?
Thanks,

Hello all,
I'm running Debian (mostly stable) with kernel 2.4.20 and I can't get

The error messages I've been getting are:

Try adding these lines to ~/.asoundrc (if you are using alsa-xmms output
plugin):
