For ~$3000 you can get a rig that can be updated almost on a daily basis,
has no knobs to clean, has what seems like an endless number of
personalized settings, and sounds great on AM and SSB. Now I just have to
push/pull/drag my big Johnson out of the way.

Hey Geoff,
I actually have this set up for SSB, but wanted to give AM a shot. I never
had this problem on SSB.
I would love to chat on 75M, but with my 40 watts (Icom IC-718 wide open on
AM) and no amplifier (the amp sets the house alarm off in PANIC mode), you
probably wouldn't even hear me.
Nice transmitter, but a little too steep for my pocketbook!

Hello Rick,
The J after the multiplier is often specific to the
manufacturer. The same with the numbers following it.
Usually the letter has to do with tolerance or
temperature coefficence. The numbers following the J
don't appear to be related to the voltage.
Your mileage may vary.
Mike/KZ5M
GOT IT! Google revealed my needs. "J" is the tolerance and the "D" in "FD"
is the working voltage which in this case is 500 wvdc.

Hi Van,
Local hardware stores will have the pointer knobs for the 500A. They
call them "appliance knobs" and they are in those pullout plastic
drawers that almost all good hardware stores have. I bought several a
few years back for my 500B.
