Provided it also works on SSB/CW on VHF/UHF might make someone a good sat rig.

Good day all,
Let me attempt to add a few cogent thoughts to the ongoing 'future of AMSAT'
discussion...
I don't know if I am the typical ham or not, but I've been licensed for 35+
years... started in my teens. Have built some of my own gear, joined clubs,
worked HF, chased DX, dabbled in
But as far as I'm concerned, it IS NOT the ultimate objective of a
satellite operator. It is the BARE MINIMUM of satellite operation, and
there is no way I'm going to be satisfied with that for more than one or
two passes.
Fair opinion to have, you are entitled to it. However, stating it the
Hi all,
I was checking an online sat tracker to see about upcoming passes and when I
went to the bookmark that I saved, it showed the correct sat number (#39569)
and displayed the correct track, but it called it Skycube and said it was
presently decayed and launched in 1998! I checked a second
Unfortunately, a while back, Yahoo changed how multiple messages about the
same subject (even to different reflectors - those are bundled into a
single message) are handled and, when a reply to any of those messages is
sent, all of the attached messages cannot be deleted! At least I have
Congrats all around! I was one of those 7... Right behind you, Paul, with VUCC

on RS-12/13. sigh! I miss that bird... :^)

the LituanicaSAT-1 FM transponder will be active from 0930Z-1400Z tomorrow.
That window includes three passes over North America at around 0940Z,
1115Z, and 1245Z
(if I've got the TLEs right - Object 39569, I believe)
I think you may have your times off Paul... I show passes over North America
Can anyone confirm if these are the proper TLEs for LituanicaSAT-1? From
Celestrak, it's object
39569U, other sources seem to give a
different object number.

Some older full duplex HTs that you can pick up at a fest or on eBay
include Yaesu FT-470 and FT-530 and Icom W2A and W32A.

On the IC-W32A's... I read several places that the early ones with 5 digit
serial numbers are okay, but that is not necessarily true from my experience.
Another point to consider is you can buy two of the cheap Chinese HTs for

Sure, now you tell me that after I buy the Arrow with the diplexer! =^D But
seriously, I bought a used Arrow
Could someone tell me what the top 10 SSB/CW (non-FM only) birds are that

Sorry but BAND is the transmit band and RX_BAND is receive band.
Tony, I believe you are a bit mistaken... I could be wrong, but it's my
understanding that Clint WAS an AMSAT Area Coordinator and he was recently
asked to step down from the position. Or informed he was stepping down
involuntarily... whatever way you want to say it.

Many times I have been engaged in a QSO only to have someone CQ'ing on
CW drift across my existing QSO. Anyone who operates satellites has
probably had this happen to them many times. Sometimes myself or
others in QSO may try to tell the CW operator Hello - QSO in

Computer-control stations and manual-control stations are adjusting for
Doppler differently. I have done - and will continue to do - both. In my
opinion, neither is incorrect; they simply differ from each other.

Yep I hear SO-50 better with an IO antenna mounted on my HT sitting
in the shack than with my fixed elevation yagis mounted outside
when the bird is overhead. I can twist and turn the HT to match the bird
To whom it may concern... if one goes to AMSAT's webpage and looks under
'Services' menu and clicks 'Mailing lists' or 'Archives' the page that comes up
is blank. I had to use google to find the new mailman list page with
appropriate info and the new archives.

John, it's not just the west coast... There is one in the middle of the US that
does about the same thing. On the linear birds, he calls over top of others who
are already trying tomake a call. And he also tends to act like a 'grid traffic
controller' on SO-50 with unnecessary chatter.
I tried that. And I can assure you both I was very polite. My first attempt was
replied to with three words, all in caps and exclamation points. I took that as
being yelled at. Then later when the person was 'speaking' to me again, I tried
a second time with more better detail to very politely
