[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Unit mods or external dac?

2005-11-03 Thread skvinson
I learned about the SqueezeBox from an audiocircle thread talking about cd players. People there mentioned SB's modified by Red Wine Audio. Here on this form, I see several threads on external dacs, but relatively little about unit mods. What are your thoughts on which would be a better

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Using a preamp?

I've decided to buy an SB3. Now I need to figure out the details. I'm wondering if people are using the SBs with preamps. What are the pros cons? I can get a great deal on an Odyssey Tempest (active pre). That would provide switching for my dvd player into a dac (for times when I play

Paul Could you point me specifically in the drection of where the boxes to disable the rescans are? I can't find any, except on rescan option in the server settings that doesn't seem to include a disable option. Bruce -- bec143 ___ audiophiles

I'll make a response, but I expect others to chime in as I don't have the full story on the digital volume issue... You don't mention your pre-amp. Do you have one? If you want to run direct from your Squeezebox to your amp with no preamp (as some have found to be quite satisfactory) then

Two things to consider about mods; first, it voids your warranty, and second, often times selling a modded unit is harder than selling stock. That said, modding can definitely give you some great results...despite the great transport performance of the SB2, my reference transport is still a

I have done a number of mods to my SB2 - replaced the PS Cap with Rubicon bypassed by smaller caps, used WBT digital output and have an external linear PS. I would like to replace the internal switching 3.3v supply with a LT1086-3.3 from my linear external PS. What component(s) comprise the

The CAL has tubes, right? If so, then it's clearly worse (in the measurable fidelity sense) than both the Anthem and the SB2; but if you like the tube thing, then get a tube DAC. -- mkozlows ___ audiophiles mailing list
