I disconnected my CD player, too. I'll probably just keep it around for
emergencies, but not really sure I'll ever hook it up again.

I'm now using that mode on 2 SB3s to feed one 16 and one 24 bit DAC. The
16 bit DAC feeds an analogue preamp for volume, the 24 bit DAC upsamples
to 192 kHz, has its own volume control and its output goes straight to
active speakers.
What is your 24bit DAC with volume
DitherMan Wrote:
The time to use the SB3's own volume control with the SPDIF output is
when you have a higer resolution DAC (20+ bits) with no volume
control.
On my class A/B amp, I'm conservative with the volume control because I
want to milk as much class A out of my cheap tube amp as

However, I'm sure if you went to your favorite dealer and and asked
them if they have Squeezebox demo, they'd be interested in carrying it.
We'd love to get more exposure in high-end audio shops, but this is so
new (for them) that it will take some pressure from customers

All,
So, I finally received my Lavry DA10 (it shipped last week). The
difference between using it with my CDP and using my CDP alone are
minimal. The difference between using the SB3 alone and the SB3
through the DAC is striking.
Mind you, I was prepared to find it

We do in fact agree on that. What I was suggesting, however, was a

It's actually ironic that you keep refering to dealers, because when

Should I be shopping for DAC's with volume control if I want pure
output AND class A amplification?
Thanks in advance for any

In Class AB, the average current through the tube is lower which results
in lower power consumption and heat and longer tube life.
Mine is an integrated AB push/pull pentode, but I'm sure the above
applies. It runs warm even at 10% volume.

I'd be willing to set up something on my website. I use Gallery for some

I think I could handle the bandwidth and space.

BTW One of the main reasons early digital was ugly was that - just
for a moment - the manufacturers forgot about voicing and just built
something that worked very well on paper/scope - they clearly didn't
actually listen to it :0)
Actually,
Robin - I agree, but oddly (some of) those early releases sound OK'ish
now on modern gear, whereas the early CD players from 84-86 (say) that
are still working mostly still sound rubbish.
The combination of early bad digital masters and early CD players was
truly appalling and is possibly still

You might consider moving that network attached storage box somewhere
less-near centerstage front, unless the big honking fan never comes on.
