I agree it would be nice to know if the Consumer subcode is on the SB

would know...

AFAIK, when EAC rips a CD it only extracts the raw PCM data. The subcode
information which determines things such as Index points (if the CD has
them), emphasis, and track sequencing is omitted.
A CD copy using NERO, OTOH, would preserve all the above, of course
burned into a CD-R. A completely
I'm a bit flummoxed by reports that until now it was difficult to get a
regulated linear psu for the Squeezebox in the UK.
Doesn't this one fit the bill? It's been available for a long time.

I accidently found my power amplifiers humming when first switching off
my D/A converter! This only happens with the Squeezy connected via
Coaxial.
Changing the phase of the power supply or the edge connectors never get
rid of the problem but changed its quality all the time.
I definitely have a
As I was interested to buy a 1748KE DAC I could only find them at
digikey. But buying just one would be too expensive because of the
handling and shipping costs. So I bought some more and have 8 to sell.

You are right! I added other pic. with reference.

I just couldn't leave well enough alone, so out of curiosity, I started
reading more about jitter. What I learned is that one way to reduce
jitter produced by CD transports is to bypass the SPDIF output
altogether, which sends PCM data serially, and instead, use an I2S
connection. Of course, one

The PCM1748 :-) I believe the only external DAC's are Monarchy and
Perpetual Tech. There aren't a lot of cable choices either, as it's
intended to be used in one-box players.

Judging from Seans post I linked on page 9, it's sent to the internal

jitter measurements, so doubtfully worth dorking with- especially if
your DAC doesn't have I2S input.
Yeah, you're probably right. Sean's

That may be one of the nicest stock SB3 systems I've seen listed (no
external dac?). I love it :-)

For anyone who has the guts to try, this is how I did it, two times
succesfully:
To remove the old dac first add solder on both sides of the dac. Next
heat up one side and carefully pull up the dac a little. Do the same on
the other side and so on until you can remove the dac. Do not use force,

Right now I'm using a stock SB3 running through a Nikko 850R receiver
and Altec Lansing 101 bookshelf speakers. The Nikko is on it's last
legs so I'm looking to upgrade to a nice integrated amp.

Actually the internal DAC does use I2S, and the s/pdif output is a
separate interface.
Brilliant! (unlike me). I heart my squeezebox.

Sean,
Would SD consider providing an AES/EBU ouput, either as standard or as
an option?

Cool! So, then it is theoretically possible to tap the I2S. I'm
surprised nobody has tried to do this already.
