outside of potential differences in sound quality btwn CD-P and SB3,
I'll bet that once you've finished ripping and can put those discs away
forever and have on-demand access to your complete music library, diced
or sliced in any organization you like, you'll never go back

I am using my SB2 this morning after taking it out of storage and I am
sure I will never go back to CDs. EAC is only a pain to setup the first
time, it is very easy to use afterwards. I am ripping Saint-Saëns Piano
Concertos 1-5, Pascal Rogé/Charles Dutoit/London Phil while listening
to it via

Moreover, maybe also test it not only to something like the ML but with
a more pedestrian DAC, like a Lavry or Benchmark (ie, sub $1,000).

I will be writing about the sound quality of the SB3's
And please John, don't forget to try using a potato as power supply.
Only then will the SB's true potential be unleashed.

No offense to Mr. Atkinson, but should we really care what he wrote?
Yes, some people care. Obviously- if they buy the magazine. Your post's
on the other hand- we are forced to read.
You should start your own magazine...

John, there has been lots of discussion of the low jitter on the SB3, I
would be curious how it measures overall.
Also, you really should try (perhaps in a follow up) to report on the
effect of power supply upgrades on measured response, as well as your
sonic impressions. I am sure the guys as

Neither do I - actually I wish more people would make such a choice,
because audio is something I care about and I'd love to see a bigger
group of people interested.

I'm biased, I pay for John Atkinson's magazine every month, and many
others, just to keep up with this fun hobby. I like music.
I like listening to music, and I have a couple of guitars,
a keyboard and a dobro that I attempt to make music on.
So, John, thanks for your efforts, you are welcome
I received my Red Wine Audio modded SB3 today. As badly as I mangled the
installation of EAC, AccrateRip, and SlimServer I still got it to work!
I couldn't wipe the silly grin off my face! WHAT A BLAST!!! Once I get
this thing under control, it'll be the best thing since sliced bread.

Just wondering if this is possible: My setup could really benefit from a

There's a (player?) setting that makes the digital out volume
independant of the analog out volume. This is what you generally want

On to the fun stuff. The SB is simply the best entertainment invention
since the Tivo.

Ah, excellent!
I'll have to look at the plugin API, if there's something equivalent to
an onPowerOff event, I could write a really simple plugin that would:
- Activate Digital-only mode (aka set volume to zero)
- onPowerOff restore analog volume (to return to a nice default
state).
It's so
