I forgot: also the analog output polarity was corrected around this

If this is the case it could simply be the case that those who prefer
FW15, and who use analogue outs, prefer reverse-polarity sources with
Well the one Quad speaker that needs servicing is in at IAG now - and
the conversation went a little like ..
Be honest, you don't REALLY want to sell these do you?
No not really
Then don't, Get it fixed and working then we can start enjoying some

Let me also reiterate my opinion that a polarity swith would be a very
valuable addition to the SB. Since it could be done globally and on a
per-song basis (remembering old preferences) it would create something
that would be unique to the SB, making it even more appealing
I'm thrilled with my current Squeezebox2 - Benchmark DAC - Sunfire Amp
setup, except for the digital glare that I still notice in the highs
(no worse than when I used a CD transport). I'm now thinking about
adding a Tube Pre into my setup (possibly the Modwright SWL 9.0), or
alternatively, the
I'm confused on whether you're planning to take the output of the SB3
and run in direct into your power amps, or through a preamp first.
If you are considering going direct into your power amps, I would
recommend some simple stepped signal attenuators. I bought a pair of

Sean - many thanks for taking the time to reply. I wonder if the
firmware 15 afficianado's were listening to the analogue output...
I also agree that a polarity setting (with album/track preference in
the database) might be useful. How can I vote for that enhancement
request? - it would be a USP

Do you have a system that creates a sound stage?
I would never try to identify phase on individual instruments.
So you think it's easier to hear absolute polarity in complex
recordings with several instruments playing at once?

Just Arrived! A box full of NOS (in the boxes) HB5's for my custom PSU.
If you want my power supply with a NOS power unit you will have to add
on $15. These cost me considerably more than my previous supplies.
Thanks,

If you have not upgraded your SB with the digital upgrades and power
supply (Bolder or Red Wine Audio), I would spend my money there first.
Bolder was my choice.
The digital upgrade ($150) was an easy and cheap way to remove some of
the digital glare from the stock unit. The power supply really
I'm sure the Bolder or Red Wine mods offer significant improvement.
However, I prefer step-wise separates upgrades, thus when the SB4
eventually comes out, I can plug-and-play into my system. Actually,
since adding the Benchmark, my systems digital glare is already much
improved. Like most

1) is there anything audibly special about fw15?
I was one of the people who reported the bug on the release subsequent
to fw15.
I can't hear it now, but as Sean points out - the volume levels have
changed which makes a listening test very difficult (without the

I think you said that you were using the HB3 originally. What's the
difference between the units? And isn't NOS Non-over sampling, a DAC
flavor?

I recently bought an SB1 on Ebay and discovered something that may well
be obvious to many of you. If I rip a CD to a (lossy) 128Kb/sec mp3
and play it through the SB it sounds significantly better than the
original CD played through my rather old low-end Yamaha CD player using
the same amp and
