I have been using the file diatonis_dts_tatu.wav which you can find on
the internet to test if my pc configuration with kernel streaming was
not upsampling on my dts capable receiver.
If I play this file on my new squeezebox it plays static. I know that
this isn't a full proof test but is there
AFIAC all 24 bit WAV files (streamed as WAV) play as 'static'.
The SB2/3 DAC does oversample.

The Squeezebox (have only tested v3) does NOT resample the signal.
Period.
When playing CD music, my receiver says 44.1 kHz, like the original
material
When playing a DTS-wav file, my receiver is decoding the DTS signal, as
long as the digital out is used and volume is set to max or disabled
So it has to do with not letting SB do anything to volume. I'll test it
out when I'm back home.
I got the SB yesterday and i am quite pleased with it.
I connect it to a primare spa21, audio physics virgo.
Found out that optical connection seemed to sound a bit murky compared
to coaxial. Also

I didn't hear it being said. I actually heard that numerous times
playing music through my sb yesterday. The first half a second or so of
a song after pressing play is skipped. Other tracks of the same playlist
seem to be ok.
Maybe my english is a bit akward because it's not my native language.
I've ripped my entire collection (even if was certain never to play
someting again in my life) to flac, which was quite a lot of work even
using three pc's simultaneously. With about 500+ albums it comes down
to about 120 gigs. For modern hdd's its not so much a problem but

try setting settings/player/audio/startup time to 0.5 (half a second)
and see if that helps. Could be your DAC needs some time to lock on
when a new stream starts?

I wonder if it is worth the effort to convert MP3 to FLAC. Is the info
lost in mp3 really lost? Would the conversion to FLAC make any sense?
Is the conversion analogus to 24bit upsampling from 16bit?

The data lost when compressing to MP3 is lost forever. The FLACS will
sound the same. You will just end up with bigger files, absolutly no
point.

I got my sb yesterday and downloaded the server then. The sb did some
sort of auto-update when it was first connected so i guess i'm up to
date.

All true, but there actually _might_ be some point to doing it. I'd say
that 90% of my tagging problems with slimserver

As for the clipped beginnings. It's worse than I remebered. I set to

Also i disabled wav-flac and flac-flac to force the server

I certainly haven't encountered that problem.
Have you tried listening to the SB's analog outputs,
Hi All, I spent a lot of time and effort ripping my CDs to 256 kbps mp3
(using a Lame encoder) before I heard of FLAC. My questions relate to
perceived audio quality vs a purist's view of the situation. I did some
research prior to choosing the bitrate and the general consensus was
that above 192
Can *you* hear any difference? If you can't, then I would only do it if
you have nothing better to do. I'm in a worse situation than you. I
originally ripped everything in 128kbps, before finding out about FLAC.
Now, for every new CD I've bought since then, I encode a very high
quality VBR mp3
Unfortunately i have very little testing time right now..
Get home at 23u55 and have to be in the car at 8u
I did start a flac with a distinctive start from the computer and it
played ok. I then started from the sb and the start was clipped. If I
start again it is ok. If I play some other music
