You don't lose anything in S/N when you use the SB volume control as
long as you don't go below a certain level - which I believe is 40 on
the current scale of 0-100. If you search the forum you can verify
that number.

If I understand the purpose of the attenuator would I then be able to
have the SB volume on max, thereby improving the the S/N ratio while
being able to lower the volume with the attenuator?
If so the only challenge I face with that is that I am constantly

Another low cost option you could consider is using a passive preamp or
simple attenuators between the SB and your amp.
I've heard great things about the Endler attenuators:

I encode my files to FLAC format via EAC. The problem does not appear to
be file specific, as the problem is common across new and old material.
Interestingly, having run the system all day with the volume turned

I noticed an improvement when using the analog output, but not so much
when going into an external DAC.
Reading about the C2 I noticed a couple things: It uses a SMPS, and
converts all but balanced input to digital. Therefore, IMHO you would
not get $140 worth of improvement. The good news is I

Hey JD, your equipment in your main room is certainly worthy of the
upgrade. I bet that room sounds awesome on HT. Quality of in wall
speaker wire and crossover linearity may diminish the effect of the
upgrade, but maybe you have already covered those bases with good wire

Yesterday I tried my SB direct into my Rega power amp (attenuation set

why :) ).
Also, I think my AV amp (pre-outs) looses quality at a certian volume
level that I don't really go over, so it was wonderfull to have loud

The ATI amp is better than the smaller receiver amp, so will sound a

output devices of the ATI are more robust than in the HK receiver.

If you see it on the spectrum analyzer then it is not an electrical
issue, but a problem decoding the file. Have these files ever played
correctly? What format are they?

I am not an audiophile but seem to be able to hear slight differences in
sound but also seem to continually fall for the placebo effect. So
here's my question.
I have a SqueezeBox currently hooked directly via the audio outs to an
ATI 1502 Amp, no pre amp, no receiver. From there I am running my

I have a compilation CD set (3 off) called Accoustic Songbook, which has
an incredible number of good tracks (for a compilation). Since I've had
the Transporter I've been playing this set much more than previously.
If you can get hold of it try to check it out.
