GaryB,
Why didn't you use a 75ohm thin coax from the BNC connector connected
upstream. Seems to me that would have been obvious todo if you bothered
to change the connector. It would have been shielded as well as
impedance match.

There is the original data and jitter (timing).
What else is there?
All the computer folk (my self included) assumed a CD was just bits and
ignored timing. Ok, we all agree
In the interest of WAF, I decided to do away with the audioquest crystal
speaker cable (someone here referred to it as Garden watering hose or
some such). Step1 was to replace it with some Kimber 4PR that was going
cheap on CAM (CanuckAudioMart), in doing so I went from bi-amp/bi-wire

And, yes, now that I know I don't need the attenation I'll be switching

Since you don't need attenuation you could try a set of XLR cables.

2 Vrms is all she does. If you want more you need a preamp, or you might
pop the cover on your amp and see if its gain can be adjusted.

I think the input sensitivity on the Krell amp wants a higher voltage to
get to max output (in other words, it probably wants the gain offered by
using a preamp)...

I tried the attenuation, and have settled on NO attenuation. It still
doesn't seem loud enough to me. It gets louder than I'm likely to play
it 99% of the time. However, the yamaha receiver could play these
speakers louder
If you don't mind buying used and you can wait for them to show up on
the used market, grab yourself a pair of Paradigm Active 20's or Active
40's. These are world class performers which will reproduce sound at
very high quality levels.
Of course finding a pair might be tough but well worth it if

I don't doubt it, the problem is I'd need to pick up attenuators and
the balanced cable just to try it. I still might in a little bit, but I

A friend of mine based in Italy who is quite an audiophile has a company
selling these (www.auxout.com). I haven't listened to them myself, but
the reviews are good and I have a lot of faith in David.

Having them that close does have one advantage, you get excellent
coupling of the bass drivers and noticeable extra low-freq. punch.
I at least have my actives the width of an SB3 apart though.

Here's the output from the standard (UK spec "Unifive USK300520") SB3
power supply. Measurement bandwidth is probably only around 20MHz or
so, my scope probe is rubbish and desperately needs upgrading. Load
resistance is about 11 Ohms, so we're drawing a little under half an

Trying the balanced is an interesting idea, but I'll probably just

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from doing mods if they want to.

A cheap SMPS usually does put out a lot of noise, both on its output and

CE (and, to a lesser extent, FCC) regulations place limits on:
- the amount of energy radiated off the system as a whole between
frequencies of 30MHz and 1GHz;
- the amount of noise conducted back up the mains
