Hey, I have one of these too! (along 2 or 3 other ones that deliver 5V
and 12V, one (old Microset) with an analogue voltage selector and
display in a metal case and a PSU of an external DVD writer that broke
that can deliver both voltages).
Now my question. If the connector is done right with the

Are there any easy ways to determine if a PSU makes noise, without
expensive equipment as oscilloscopes etc?

Gabriel Bouvigne, current developer of the LAME encoder, dismissed this

I suppose it's possible that horrendously
I would also suppose that people who have listened to MP3s for most of
their lives might find MP3s to sound better than other formats of
music. I would also guess this is part of the same mechanism that gets
people to like vinyl better than CD--it's about the coloring the media
imparts. MP3s
Another case of something sounding better as opposed to actually being

You can make anything sound better, but that is completely different to
a faithful reproduction of the source material.

I'm sure that some people have grown to prefer it.
Back in the 1970's (as I recall) there was a study that compared fresh
green beans to canned. I forget the exact numbers, but it was something
close to two-thirds of the people tested preferred the taste of canned
green beans. There are plenty

Canned Peas .. yes please :-)
Actually the reason more people prefer canned peas and sweetcorn to the
real stuff is the amount of sugar thats added during the canning
process. And yes, there is as much sugar in a can of baked beans as
there is in a can of coke.
My younger brother was amazed

+1 for this remark. Just got back from the Jazz Club -
To be fair, most DACs do any number of things to process the pure data
stream in order to produce good sound. Perhaps what lame does is good
from a psycho-acoustic point of view.
But the article misses the point - mp3 loses information. It will NEVER
make sense to store music in mp3.
It makes
