I currently have 2 amps Sony STR-DG910 for home cinema. 2 channel direct
performance is poor.
Arcam Alhpa 7 for squeezebox.
Currently i am swapping my front channel speaker connections depending
on what activity i am undertaking.
My question is this, is there 1 av amp that will replace both

Thing is, when I walk back into the room I'm staggered by the change in
sound. Now the TP sounds great again. Clearly switching on and off the
desktop affects the sound, and it's not subtle. Why on earth? I mean
CAT5 is decoupled AFAIK. It's a different ring main,
at that price i sincerely doubt it. to get good stereo performance
through an av amp you need to spend quite a lot £500 at least. I've
got an Onkyo 805 and I believe the stereo performance is quite good but
the amp is pricey.

Doesn't the sony have pre amp outputs that can feed the alpha? That would
give you the best of the alpha if the sony pre amp is OK

Dunno,
You may find that you would get a better opinion from another forum.
Most here might feel that posting in the audiophile section is a bit
rich.
On a positive side it appears that the Cambridges both have pre outs if
you want to keep your Arcam connected.
Use the cambridge with the arcam
I have a DAC working with my SB3: a California Audio Lab CL-15 CD
player, with PSDIF digital input into its 20 bit DAC. I have another
DAC in my home theater room: a Linn Unidisk SC, and I think that the
sound quality is about the same (well, sometimes I feel the CAL is
better, sometimes not).
Complicated, and something you're only going to resolve with plenty of
listening!
Firstly, the Transporter might work for you. Try it. You might also
like to consider the modded products such as the Modwright Transporter
and the SB+. If you go the DAC route, I would suggest one with a clock
I would also add that the Stereophile ratings are not a reliable index
of how good any piece of gear will sound in your system with your other
gear and, most importantly, YOUR ears and music preferences. Don't ever
base a decision on whether Stereophile rated something A or A+ or B or
whatever.
