RTHK Hong Kong has just announced using Octoshape for peer to peer high
quality radio streaming. Clients are available for MAC OSX and Windoze.
I tried it on my Macbook/Weiss setup and it sounded good.
Any chance of Squeeze supporting this?

I just got my A2´s, and I am very happy with them. I will change my pc
to the new iMac when it comes out so I thought it would be a nice design
all together.
The speakers are pretty good, but not really ment for a desk job in my
opinion. The reason is that on a desk you sit very close to the

I ended up ordering the A5s, B-stock. Received this AM. Listening now.
Superb!
For fun, I connected them to a switch to allow quick side-by-side
comparison of old vs new. (Old = 15 year old boombox with leftover
Samsung surround speakers) The differences are

Well, you can put a passive preamp if you like :

It has only switches and an Alps potentiometer, it does not affect
quality at all, as it has no preamp stage.
The specs of that preamp are kind of a joke when compared to that

Granted, it would be better to say that the spec is greater than 80dB
20-20kHz, but in practice, there is little difference between 80 and 90
dB of channel separation. Nearly no real recordings use that much
channel
I'm currently using the Squeezebox Classic with an Audio Note dac going
into an Arcam A85 integrated, but i'm thinking of getting the Sugden
Bijou Musicmaster (poweramp) and going directly from the dac using the
Squeezebox as pre-amp.
Will it work? The specs on the Sugden class a poweramp is:
Yes, but you should protect your speakers by adding some in-line
attenuators at the amp rca inputs for your dac.

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...

The channel separation is only specified as ' 80dB @ 1kHz', Muting is
'90 dB'. 80dB is the equivalent of only a 13 bit DAC! 90dB is a
15-bit DAC. The transporter has what, a 120

Unfortunately, this isn't exactly true
Passive preamps generally have lowish input impedances, and highish
output impedances, which, depending on what they are connected to, can
have a significant affect on the quality of the signal

Huh? He is absolutely right. A passive preamp is just a

Thank you for your view about protecting the speakers. But I am not sure
that is required when this sugden class a amp only can produce 16 watts

Given the significance of your listening environment as a key element
influencing what you actually hear when using your Squeezebox/
Transporter, please post a picture or two showing its layout and a few
words describing which aspects work and don't work for you, room
treatments you've used etc.
