However, you gain 2 subwoofer cards and an analogue out card (to
connect to analogue amp), which aren't standard on the big XP.

AFAIK you can't.
Best bet is to put your 5.1 files outside of random playback (perhaps
by giving them a special genre tag - that way you have total control of
when/if they get played).
