Hi
I am not really too technical. Is there a foolproof walkthrough for a
Mac?
Thanks

After deploying the 2.0 i experience cracks when changing song with the
remote. Using the web interface does *not* give craks / static. The
crack makes the cone on my speaker pop quite a bit when on higher
volumes. It almost makes my remote unusable...
Anyone else experience this?

Proper downsampling takes more cpu and memory than the Touch has.
That surprises me. The touch can handle 5.1 channel sources at 96/24,
which would be 50% more data than 192/24 stereo, and a lot more
processing.

I disabled this mod, it just thins out the sound, not as coherent-- is
this changing how the spdif signal is interfered with, jitter etc?

I disabled SPDIF priority by setting its value to 40. Left other
priority changes as suggested in the mod. Think(?) its better now
without much edginess around particular high frequencies.

Agree with HumanMedia. Any value above 44 is fatiguing within 5 mins of
listening. but it does give more spatiality. Experimenting values
between 41 and 44, may be will set it back to 40.
Thanks dynaudiorules for this very interesting mod.
Interesting observations.

*Handle is subjective. FLAC 5.1 ignores all channels except FL and FR.

I completely agree with mcr on that point.
I played around quite a bit last night with values between 40 and 59.
Below 44 sounded a bit muted/muffled/bassy and
There is no one best setting for everyone. It's all system dependent,
meaning your amp, speakers, your cables, your room, your ears :)
Still, I think it'd be hard to imagine any kind of system, other than a
very uneven and bright sounding one, where not at least one of the
priority changes
I have reset the SPDIF priority to 40, while all other values are as per
the mod. I still feel a better sense of music - may be I am benefiting
from the other priority changes. Is this is a correct assumption

IMO, this mod is a very useful mod that allows users to fine-tune their
system. At the same time, can this be considered as a non-audiophile
modification, similar to using the treble button as it modifies the
sound output from the touch than merely reproducing the recording.

I got this up and running on my main system this weekend, I set spdif to
59 and was shocked, it was so harsh, and the bass seemed to almost
disappear. I thought I had broken the DAC.
Then I set it back down to 44 and the bass was back and the harshness
went away. I was not prepared for the
Whats going on here is that in the Touch are two DACs, one connected to
the RCA jacks (the hi-fi DAC) and one connected to the internal
speaker which produces the bleeps and blurps ect, (the effects DAC).
Normally there is a separate jive-alsa process just for the effects
channel, this is a
Thanks for the info John, thats an interesting factoid about the
jive-alsa priority. I will be playing with those numbers.
I have to say, I have one Touch set at 53 and the other set at 4859
does seem a little too much. However its good that these values can be
adjusted to accommodate

I've been playing with jive_alsa as well as spdif, I find I like
jive_alsa at 55 and spdif at 51.
It, much more lively, more open, far more subtle than the default,
without the harshness and keeps the perceived frequency balance
intact.
Of course everybody is going to like something different.

I might be wrong but I found the process id with ps -e which was 704
then executed chrt -f -p 55 704
If you want this in your rcs file then put the new command at the end
on a new line after chrt -f -p 51 367
If you do it after a clean boot (with an untampered rcs file), I think
