The Croft I proposed uses zero feedback hybrid design. Well, it's well
under £2000, but sounds like a £4000 amp. ;)

I live in Upstate New York and there are no high end audio stores near
me to demo or borrow amps to try out.
I cannot stop thinking that the Transporter is a bit dry or analytical
compared to actual music.
The amp I am considering is the Vincent 236 MKII which is a hybrid

If I were you, I would get a Croft Acoustics Micro 25 pre + Series 7
power : http://www.croftacoustics.co.uk/main.html
But they are not warm amplifiers : they are rather faithful,
detailed, rich and engaging.

I would consider the Parasound balanced amps, and Bryston amps. How
loud do you listen?

Why amp? why not powered speakers? less parts.
And powered speakers can be designed so that amp matches the speaker
drivers' needs.

Any comments ?As far as i know, the Cambridge should be better for stereo
performance
than the Onkyo. Moreover, Arcam and Cambridge have a similar sonic

They are - in fact the 640 is highly thought of in it's price range.
Personally I prefer the NAD sound, but I suspect I'm in the minority in
this forum.

I currently have 2 amps Sony STR-DG910 for home cinema. 2 channel direct
performance is poor.
Arcam Alhpa 7 for squeezebox.
Currently i am swapping my front channel speaker connections depending
on what activity i am undertaking.
My question is this, is there 1 av amp that will replace both
at that price i sincerely doubt it. to get good stereo performance
through an av amp you need to spend quite a lot £500 at least. I've
got an Onkyo 805 and I believe the stereo performance is quite good but
the amp is pricey.

Doesn't the sony have pre amp outputs that can feed the alpha? That would
give you the best of the alpha if the sony pre amp is OK

On a positive side it appears that the Cambridges both have pre outs if
you want to keep your Arcam connected.

I think you could pick up a PS Audio GCC series integrated or Cary

I've also been looking for a new amp and speaker combo to go with my
transporter. I agree somewhat that any new amp should be atleast
tested with a new speaker setup. I disagree that you you have to
perfectly match every single speaker and amp combination.

Go for an amp only, not an integrated and you will get more bang for
buck. The TP can serve as your preamp.
I would also look for balanced inputs.
There are some great class D amps out there in your price range.
Even Jeff Rowlands entry amp is only 1,600.00 retail.

As you are from Denmark you could a buy a used SiriuS or GammuT power
amp
The new ones are grossly overpriced (imho).
They had the DMX series back then, their budget alternative very good
amps for the money.
I uses a SiriuS DMX200 it has balanced inputs and built in attentuation
so you can adapt

Hi guys,
First time poster. Recently, I was looking for something to bring my
digital music to my living room and the Squeezebox was the most obvious
choice.
I have a set of Kef IQ5 speakers and the old Pioneer receiver that was
never able to drive the speakers to their full potential. I never
There have been a few threads on this, though I can't immediately lay my
hands on one of them.
Basically you want to use a decent stereo amp to drive your stereo
speakers, but a more basic receiver for HT, including using the same
front speakers?
Yes, this can definitely be done, I do this.
Thanks Cejay,
Remotes will not be a problem, I have Harmony, Universal remote and
can setup different activities, depending on my needs.
I will definitely look at the spec for my receiver, but in the
meantime would like to see some suggestions for either of the option.

produced a jarring sibilance on some tracks which I couldn't live with.
