Im fairly new to the concept of running S/PDIF out of the SB to a DAC.
So far, Im really pleased with the results.
Im thinking ahead to the SB Touch and Im contemplating installing the
Touch on a wall. This would make my S/PDIF (RCA/coaxial) cable run back
to the DAC quite long
I have a SPDIF cable running from my big stereo rig in the basement, to
the home theatre setup in the living room, so not quite 25 feet, but
probably 16-18. Works fine with no issues. If you use a good quality
RG6 cable, you should be fine.
High frequency roll off is the only mechanism that I
I didn't measure to the foot, but my run of coax has to be close to 25'
from the Squeezebox to the DAC. (15' long run in the basement joists
plus 4' or 5' in the room at each end for connections to the respective
devices.)
The signal is rock solid at the DAC. I previously had a short run with
The maximum cable length in the S/PDIF specification is 10 meters, or
about 39 feet.
Just as a test, I once ran S/PDIF output through the double-shielded
RG6 cable TV coaxial cables (temporarily disconnected from the CATV
system) from the Squeezebox in my living room to a DAC in my main
