I like Rhapsody, and use it a lot. $10/month unlimited. They're
streaming at 192kbps.It is what it is, but I like it to listen to
new albums before buying, or to re-discover old music that I'd
forgotten.Great service.

In case you weren't aware, they already have their Pandora One service,
which streams 192kbps. It's a subscription service for $36/year. The
drawback is that
Thanks guys. I know that Pandora is compressed to hell anyway, I just
wanted to field some opinions on the matter, will check the links out
later.

Especialy when the volume operates in 24 bits, you wont loose bits,
only get slightly wo
Given that most RG values are quite small (4-6db), I don't think one
should lose much sleep over it. IMO, the whole "bit truncation"
issue...except for high levels of digital attenuation is nothing more
than an audio boogeyman.

Also, let's not forget that Pandora is streaming at 128kbps. In that
case, losing bits because of attenuated gain would be the least of your

You are seeing the "Replay Gain" data that has been encoded into the
tracks. This info can be used to make albums and/or tracks all about
the same loudness, thus avoiding the problem of having to turn up the
volume for one album, and then turn it down for another to achieve the
desired listening
