I believe the name Diogo translates asJames. But I've also seen Jaime,
which I think is the more contemporary version.

Hi Maria,
I don't think this is a free upgrade. Family Tree Maker keeps milking this
money cow by adding these newer versions which to me are no real
improvements over the previous versions. I am sure they will send you an
email and offer the newer version at a reduced amount and tell you all
I haven't come across the name Jaime in my research either, but, I
have come across the name Diogo. According to my Portuguese
dictionary, both are accepted translations for the name James, but, I
agree w/ NC that Jaime is probably the more contemporary version.

Hi,
The name Jaime is Portuguese. We have a friend of the family whose name is
Jaime and he was born in the Acores. I asked my dad who was born in Pico and
he is in his 80's and says it's an old name.
I attached the google translator so if you hit the little speaker button in the

Hi there,
I speak Portuguese and I'm almost sure that James translate to Jaime. Also I
would speculate that Bario could be Dario.
For those that can not speak Portuguese or need help with Brazilian
genealogy, I'll be glad to help.
Cordially.

Thanks for all the interesting discussion. I went online and checked

That's it! I've seen the Diogo or Tiago (more modern, I guess) in my
research. At least from looking at the records from the 1880s on back on
Sao Miguel. Maybe the central islands are more apt to use Jaime as Liz
suggested.

Since it was before the 1909 Immigration Act, there is no page 2 to scan.
