Hello Everyone,
I am trying to help my Uncle find his aunt. As my mom and I have been doing
our family tree my Uncle who is in his 80's has asked if I could help find
his missing aunt. My Uncle's father and Grandfather had always talked about
"Tia Laura". His grandfather had her before he marri
Hi to add to your request. I have found when someone is widowed when they
get married that they don't put the widower's parents names. So in this
case he is the Widower of Thereza Pimentel.

Hi Pam,
I would love to see what you have on the Rosario deaths. My Grandmother,
Jorgina Luiz was born there so there is family I need to research in that area.
Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated and whatever I have found I am
happy to share with my many "cousins."
Thanks!

I see the point with the "a" and now agree that is probably is filha. I
still think it starts with an M like in the priests name at the end. Also
the mother's name "Maria" is just below the child's name and really looks
similar except that the "I" is not evident and the "a" is very
heavy-hand
Hi Herb,
Jose de Mendonca Pereira is the brother of my ancestor Dona Maria de
Mendonca. Our common ancestor is Miguel de Mendonca and Dona Catarina
Pereira, married in S. Jorge, Vila do Nordeste around November 1670.

Hi Lee, you have done a lot of work on your cousin's family. Is this from
the Silva or De Mello line?
Anyway, my wife says this is a title "Alferes" which is low ranking
military officer. My dictionary translates it a 2nd Lieutenant and google
translates it as ensign.

It still looks like a girl to me. It says FILHA. also BAPTISADA.
Check the "a" in Arruda.

I agree that it looks like a "filho" and wonder if the name might be
Mario. It seems every capital M on the record has the same large loops and
ends with a thick crescent at the lower right. This can be seen on the
third line where Sam Miguel is written, but the best example is in the
Cura's
It is the title* "Alferes,"* which was formerly a military rank equal to a
Second Lieutenant or an Ensign.

Sam, thanks for starting this regarding Arline.

Not sure, but I think the priest made a mistake and the name is simply

I believe it's a girl. Look at all the "a's" (they all have tails). The
"o's" have no tails.
The first two letters are a mystery. If I had to guess, I would say Flara,
but I have never heard that name. Maybe Flora?
Looks like you will have to find a marriage... if possible.

Thank you for that generous offer. I will have to check my Sao Jorge lines.
I know some are in Ribeira Seca. I may not be back to the time periods you
have extracted, but I will check

I have Sao Jorge Ribeira Seca marriages extracted from 1698 through a
portion of 1767; baptisms from 1623 through a portion of 1676; and some of
the death records as well.
If anyone has a need, contact me. My goal is to eventually have all of

Actually, Herb, Joseph, or Juzeph, is used frequently not as frequently as
Jose, but often enough - Looking over the translation, I realize that I
messed up on a detail. At the very end, where it says* limit* of the Villa,
it should read* suburb of this Villa. *Please excuse - it was late, yada
The father, Alferes Manuel de Conde Sodre, he had already passed away. It
looks to me like they are all from that parish. I'm a beginner though when
it comes to translating.
