Jeremy,
I can't answer your question. I just wanted to mention that Machado often
became Marshall. In my family, it went Machado to Marshall and back to Machado.

Machado often became Marshall. I don't think I've heard of it becoming
Martin. Martins maybe was Martin. I'll have to dig out that sheet tomorrow
and look to see if Cunha is on it.

Does anyone have any ideas or knowledge as to how Cunha may have been
changed in the U.S.? (like Machado often became Martin)
Thanks!

I think I ordered about Jan 28 so it took not quite 3 weeks. I think that
is really fast from Portugal. The book not only has abbreviations for names
but other words that are used in the church records. I even shows the 'y'
for the 'i' and 's' for 'z' change in the names.

Her name is Semiana, not a common name. Compare it to the F in Francisca. The
upper case F has a horizontal line.

Thank you Sandra! I've contacted a couple other churches in the area just

died), and St. Catherine of Sienna. Is St. Joseph's still there? My
great-grandmother and my grandfather are buried at St. Josephs. I'll check

My Aunt Mary lived at 52 Ottawa. Her brother Anorio lived with her. Next
door to them at 50 lived Alice Pimental Gonsalves with her daughters
Darlene and Lindy. Alice's father was Fulgencio Pimental. The last time I
was back there was 1995. My aunt tied in 1998.

Easy enough to find out. Graciosa and Faial are full of Dutra's, which is
why I suggested it. You mean Damiao. None that I know of, so of them. In
such a case they either would not shorten it or make one up.

How to do it.
1) Log into your AncestryDNA or 23andMe account and download the raw data.
If you don't know where the raw data is, you'll have to do an Internet
search for: download raw data *company name*
2) Create an account (unless you already have) here:

Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) can now accept transfers from AncestryDNA or
23andMe. So if you've been waiting to transfer, or waiting for the issue to
be resolved so you can transfer, it can now happen!!
