paternal Grandmother: Marie Gertrude Holmes b-5/31/1894 in Sao Jorge (I
think?) came to the U.S. she said when she was 7, thru Boston? With her Mother
Isabel I Sousa (maiden Enos), her Step Brother Manuel S
My guess is that Holmes might have been Homen.

people sailing from there were living on S.Miguel and Sta. Maria islands. I
do see a few other islands. I think many of S. Jorge probably left from
Angra on Terceira, but since I don't research S. Jorge, I'm not 1

That is very interesting. That is why it is so hard to trace the family
because they used what ever name they wanted to and some were the exact same
names.
My Mother always told me my Grandmother lied about her age all the time because
when she was working she wanted to be older unt

Looking at the Rol de Confessados (Census), they are still living there in
1884. In the 1890 they are not there. Isabel's mother died March 1889. I
believe Isabel emmigrated right after that
