We're running BackupPC on a Mandriva 2006.0 free
edition (and previously on a 2005LE) and it works like a
charm.
we are using xfs filesystem and we do export it using
xfscopy (which is a dd that only copies used blocks to another filesystem of
file) thic xfscopy tool has the advantage of not
ackup support. Not yet
implemented apparently).

Does it requires a patch?
Tanks for your help as I was unable to find any single doc. (no README, no

I know that it makes non-sens to exclude files if you specify a list of files
to be backed up, but as the BackupFilesOnly option also supports backing up
directory, then (in that case) it makes sense.

BTW, I've also posted that on cooker mailing list, and someone seems to have

BTW, while it works fine with Mac OS X 10.3, I have troubles with Mac OS X

nothing to do in this freeze, but I wonder if anybody else has experienced
such freezes with Tigers when having high activity (cpu or

Of course an option to enable/disable this feature would be cool too.

Anyway, your solution is interresting and will surely fits some readers needs.
BTW, maybe it could be interresting to have a backup strategy page in the FAQ

If my memory is correct though, I remember that bacula is able to handle
somewhat sparse files (if size of file different from size on disk, then
assume it is a sparse file then zero a assumed to be sparse).
Many thanks for your answer, BackupPC is realy a great project :-)

Taken from xfsdum man:
Each invocation of xfsdump dumps just one filesystem. That invocation
is termed a dump session. The dump session splits the filesystem

one or more dump streams, one per destination. The split is done

No xfsdump is a filesystem dump utility. It means that it deals with the
filesystem at block level not at file level.
It acts like dd, but while dd is dumb as it reads all bloacks, xfsdump only
read used blocks avoiding backup of empty blocks.
The resulting file is not an image but is browsable v

7zip is 2 times faster at decompression but 2 times slower at compression. The
compressed file is about 40% smaller.
7zip (when using 7z compression) is able to use multithreading (-mmt switch)
