Joye, I felt the whole berner - l family sink to its collectively knee
and offer up a prayer for Winston Poohbear, as we wept into the
shoulders of our beloved berner babies. You are being very brave. Even
though we know better than to take it for granted that our berners will

It is with a sad heart that I share the passing of my Cricket, aka Mi-Ja's
Solo Singer, NDD, BNDD, CGC. Cricket was put to rest last Sunday, lying in
my arms with Spencer by her side.
She failed quickly, but a battery of tests gave us no recognizable
diagnosis. Her thyroid function had fallen 19

Hi all.
I've been a Berner-l subscriber for about a month now, and I've really
enjoyed finding out information about this wonderful breed from the people
that know it best.
I'm a 19 year old girl from Northern BC, Canada who has been active in dog
world for 10+ years. My mom breeds Siberian H
I noticed recently that my 18 month old Berner is starting to lose the
pigment on his nose. It is no longer black, but sort of dark brown. I
have heard of this happening when using plastic bowls, but he has
always had stainless steel food and water bowls.
Has anyone had this happen?
Thanks,
M
Yes, that is consistent with what many vets will tell you also.

I do not use the COSTCO generic. I was speaking of the human version of
Nutramax Cosequin DS which is Cosamin DS. Cosamin DS at Costco runs about
$65 for 230 capsules with a rebate -- considerably cheaper than Cosequin DS
from the vet.

Our Aussie pup wasn't carsick on his initial crated ride home from the

our pickup with a doggie seatbelt, he was usually carsick and always
salivated LOTS. One thing that was recommended to us was to use ginger to

Hi Susan,
Thanks for your note of condolence. I guess it's good that histio takes
our berners so fast so they don't suffer so long, but it sure is hard on
those of us left behind. Winston was a very special boy.

Joye

Joye and family,
I am so, so, so sorry for your loss. So many types of cancer can move so
quickly in our beloved breed. Like with your Winston my Berner-mix, Tippy,
seemed fine but with a touch of something and than she was gone. It is
always heartbreaking to lose one of the fur-babies
Pat,
For those of us who do not have dogs that are over 10 years but would still
like to honor Winston and his family
How can we make a donation to the grant fund now that that raffle is over?
Joye has been such an advocate for this breed that I would like to make an
additional donation i

Was very worried about Neala after we lost Caolan. She acts better, eyes
look better, and she does have a smile when going for a walk.
Wish Neala could celebrate her Birthday with all her littermates.
Happy Birthday Neala and hope we have you around for many more years.

I am sorry to hear of your Winston passing. You are so right about

Is it safe to assume that your dog has been checked out for any kind of

Lindsey,
Another thought on the car sickness. Did Cooper slurp up a lot of snow
while you were in the mountains? This caused the pukes in one of my
berners. Also, the curvy roads used to give my daughter's dog the same
reaction. Perhaps just traveling on an empty stomach for a while would

Hi Marilyn,
Wow! Never thought of it that way!
I guess that is why our crew have been digging such deep holes?
To make bigger mountains!
Really, they have been very naughty lately.
All the rain has made for nice soft, or muddy dirt where they've worn the
grass down by the front gate and now as yo
Hi All,
Last week we had just a dusting of snow. (We are having a very brown winter
so far in Minneapolis - which I am sure many of you on the East coast aren't
happy about as you seem to be getting "our" snow.) Anyhow, as I looked out
over the backyard one night, with the street lights glist

Hi Lindsay,
I can't tell from your post, was this his first long trip?
Were the mountain roads full of turns?
Does he take regular short car rides?
Was he crated? or just sitting in the seat?

I heard an arthritis doctor on the radio talking about the effectiveness of

Lindsay,
My puppy girl before Star, Tippy, got car sick the first time we went on a
long trip together. She was about 4 months old at the time also. It only
happened once. I think she just needed to "get" her car legs... After that
time she loved the car and was always willing to go any pla

Maybe. Maybe not.
The brand name CosaminDS (Nutramax) from Costco is the one that has a lot of

Hi Mary-
Unfortunately hygromas are a real pain to deal with. Veterinarians do not
have a 'cure-all' that will prevent it from reappearing, and owners do not
have any way of preventing it in the first place.
Some tricks that you can attempt to try with Bear are:
