Admittedly I am not an experienced dog owner, Tatty being my first, but
when researching where to get a puppy from none of the breeders we found
would take back puppies for any reason other than within 7 days if the
health check was negative (the legal state in France I believe). With the 3
Dear Emma
6.5 months is VERY your for a Bernese to come into heat and you should check
her with your vet. It could be that she has a vaginal infection that needs
treatment and this could give off the funny smell.
Also if she is on heat then most vets are very unwilling to spay until she

I very rarely write because of so much flaming on this list and that I am
fairly new to Berners (but not new to raising dogs).
Thankfully, my Berner Boy was a leftover! He was the result of a well
planned experienced breeder who just happened to have two more pups than they
thought...
Exuberant behavior? My Daisy is the Queen of Exuberance. I finally got it
under control by ignoring her when coming home. I hang up my coat, do a few
things and then casually pet her. Finally getting older may have helped the
situation (Daisy, not me!). At 3.5 yrs., Daisy still greets guests

Hi Everyone!
I have a question about lap sitting. My big Berner Boy, Stevie, who by the
way is now a mature one year old as of January 1!!, seems to think that he
is a lap dog! Stevie weighs approx 105 pounds and whenever anyone that he
cares about sits down in a comfortable chair he automatically

is very funny to watch indeed. Does anyone else's Berners do this?
Just wondering if this was a Stevie idiosyncrasy or a Berner one or none
of the above.
I have decided that Micawber the Berner Boy

Mark,
You know that I have been very impressed by how you
have persevered and made the right contacts in the
process of starting your BMD breeding program. I was
appalled to hear that you had been referred to as a
puppy mill but I knew you weren't... and am glad to
hear it was all a mistake. I

Hi Mark. HEAR! HEAR! We have been extremely interested in BMDs since
seeing them and falling in love with them at a dog show last summer (where
we went to check out another breed). We visited several BMD breeders,
ordered books, and did tons of research on these beautiful dogs. We, too,

This store has the Sandicast Berners, it's not listed on their website,
but you can call about them! I had one I enjoyed for a long time, then
it went to a raffle to make room for the next item I put on the mantle.
I miss the Sandicast Berner, they really are very nice!

Actually, I have posted several times about this excellent humane training

Why
question everyone's motive?
Because there are to many pups ending up in bad situations and are bred
without regard to health and temperament and that doesn't help the breed. I
applaud a breeder who does all the leg work to breed a litter for the right
reasons and not just for a buck. As

I just got a nice surprise from CERF, and thought I would share it. I had
