Sometimes it works on top of it, sometimes it doesn't... I'd try the
update. If it fails, remove the squeezebox folder _only_ (none of etc or

Ok, so my files are ok.
The scanner doesn't pick them up but it does scan the files, just
doesn't inventory them as video. They odd time it will pickup one
file, but it isn't playable on the client side. Same video is playable
on the client side using twonky.
Any ideas?

Well the first thing is you need to be running the latest version:

Then, enable scan.scanner logging. Maybe something is broken on PPC.

I want to try the latest nighlty build as well.
But i don't have a clue how to get this working on my QNAP TS-459.
Can I somewhere find the steps how to set this up and what installation
file to use?

The only difference between it and /shares/Public/Shared Music is that
"Shared Videos" has m2ts files and "Shared Music" has mp3 files.
The mp3 files are added and I can play them on my upnp client.

Could also be a 32-bit file size issue too, in that case. You might find it
works with a smaller file.
I know nothing about DLNA, video libraries, tagging, etc. Educate me a
little. I do have a few hundred movies on my file server and several

But it only works as long as I don't want it to scan from attached

rescanned.

So it's a file size issue? Is that a limitation of LMS upnp plugin?

I am running Ubuntu Server 11.04, 32 bit. I updated to the latest
Debian build from the unstable repository before doing a deep dive.
I am not having any scanning problems. I added 6 test AVIs to a new
video directory in my library and they scan properly.

OK, maybe I can verify that. I have a 4.5 GB .mkv file. XBMC connected
to LMS shows it as being 378.9 MB in size, and if I fast forward
through it, it cuts out at about 12 minutes into a 1:41:00 movie.

Ok, so I got LMS to scan my movies and TV shows. And I got XBMC 10.1 up
and running on a Windows XP computer. I added the UPnP library in XBMC
and it shows me the server. I've even played a few .avi files.
What I see in XBMC is a flat filename view. Is that what I should
expect? I thought it wou
You can browse by folder too, obviously video tagging is nowhere near
where music file tagging is. We do try to read at least tagged titles
from videos if they have them though.
Thumbnails are generated by LMS.

AVI and MP4 files can be tagged the same as WMA/MP4 audio files, since
they use the same container. I am not sure about tagging for other
formats. There are probably a lot where you can't tag them at all.

Ok, I'm starting to get it.
I found in XBMC where I can browse by folder. For this instance of LMS
I have only videos, no music or photos. One thing that could maybe
improved is that at the top level I see:
Music
Pictures
Video
But Music and Pictures are empty. Seems like these could be suppres
Apparently at least one user has got a database is locked error when
scanning and using TrackStat in 7.7.0 RC3. The problem seems to happen
when TrackStat tries to write play counts of currently playing track to
the persist.db file.

I thought I'd give RC3 a try on my laptop but not had much success.
I pointed LMS at \\server1\server data\videos\ where I have several
dozen half-hour long VOBs ripped from DVD using DVDFab. They play just
fine using TVersity as the server and they don't need transcoding.

I have a 2.0 GB .avi file (almost exactly 2.00 GB) that is being
reported as 4.00 GB in size. Most smaller files seem to have their file
sizes reported correctly.
I created a zero length .avi file in on of the folders and browsed to
it in XBMC. It's also reported as 4.00 GB in length.

For the main server, I don't believe update checks are enabled with beta
versions, although I could be wrong about this.
Firmware updates for the Radio, Touch and Controller should be
downloaded and prompted for, even with the beta server.

7.7 is different in that it required mysb side changes due to
therenaming. Therefore it was hardcoded to check against tes.mysb.com.
I removed that line today. 7.7 will no longer automatically find
updates until we have officially released it.

My scan performance pictures is 10 times slower than music.
Luckily I have a very modest picture collection, I'm not a hobby
photographer it's basically just vacation pictures no more than 3020
pictures.

I've been in the process of compiling LMS from scratch for the older
QNAP TS-x09 series last days, and I thought I was done with building
any perl dependencies for LMS, according to modules.conf.
However, my build fails to start on my qemu VM complaining it "Can't
locate loadable object for modul
modules.conf is not the definitive list of necessary modules, and not all
modules are on CPAN and some have patches or special build requirements. You
need to use the sources in vendor/CPAN along with the buildme.sh script there
which should take care of everything for you.

Oh and yes, if it's not in modules.conf it is optional (but this situation is
obviously not well tested). And you will be losing a lot of functionality if
all those other modules are missing. The only reason to leave something out is
if the target platform is very slow or limited (e.g. Touch).

various thumbnail options that are created for every image/video. This
is probably the source of most of the slowdown. I think I mentioned
this before, but right now each thumbnail is generated from the

Yeah, I never really got an answer to that one.
It'd be interesting knowing how a frame from a video is chosen to
represent it. A problem with the thumbnails for widescreen movies is
that they're all but unreadable with 1/2 the image area consisting of
black bars.

Did you check the brightness setting? Press the Brightness button on the
remote or check Settings/Player in the web UI.

Just for information, I managed to reproduce this "database is locked"
in my own LMS setup without any third party plugins installed, so it's
not just related to third party plugins. Unfortunately it only seems to
happen sometimes and it seems to be related to if you stress the
database from SBS p
