In my experience, the wiki upgrade itself is indeed very easy. I just
checked your version information though and I see that you are
running against PHP4 and MySQL 4, as would be expected with MW1.4.
MySQL4 is ok, though I believe MySQL5 is preferable at this point.
PHP4 is a non-starter
Unfortunately PHP is provided to us by SourceForge, the only thing we
can do is file enhancement requests to upgrade to PHP 5. Same for SQL.

There is now a bibdesk wiki at wikia.
I have not done anything to edit it. However, we now have a wiki that
is MW1.12 and free if the community wants it. Obviously, I would open
it up to the current wiki folks so you can migrate content, if that
is what you want to do.
OK, I spoke too soon. It looks like that's not easy in the version of
MediaWiki we're running - we are using 1.4.3 and the current version
is 1.12.
I'm a little surprised that it survived that long.
Anyway, I don't have the time to do an upgrade right now, but it'd
probably only take ~2 hours or
