We know about that legislation, and we care. (At least I know and care
about it and most of my friends know and care.) But the opposition to
legislation by a bunch of Dane County constituents doesn't seem to make
much difference to the folks that can actually approve or reject
legislation.
The city and Bike Fed literally didn't know that the SCERB was taking this
up until the day before. And they had no idea that Fred (and Dianne
Hesselbein, who should also be very bike-friendly) would vote against the
proposal. Several people called Fred's office before the meeting and were

I think there's some validity to your point, but also think there's a lot
to unpack there.
I don't know the senator and I don't know how often or in what ways he
rides his bike. Clearly, he's known as a bike-friendly legislator and is at
least passionate for cycling broadly. The Bike

I can't bike anymore but like this idea. Perhaps a city council resolution
targeted at Fred and the rest of the area delegation. Clear is obvious alder

I agree with Brian. I like contra flow lanes as much as the next person but
there are much worse proposals moving through the Legislature. For instance,
today, the Assembly is taking up Assembly Bill (AB) 563, which will let Dane
County towns opt out of countywide zoning ordinances, AB 600 and
One option that comes to mind is putting it on the right side of the
street. That would also alleviate some of the concerns about dooring,
especially if it were a separated lane.
