A group of gull-watchers scoured the Niagara River at the power plants and
around the falls today. There are lots of gulls on the river now but at one
point for an hour or two today, there were very few below the control gates
where there had just been LOTS. The reason was due to what sounded lik

tiny songbird that we had seen yesterday. The bird in question was smaller
than a chickadee but could not relocate it, and I cannot identify it either.

morning is the best time to see it at the corner of Hilda and Lois

For those birders interested, there is a Northern Harrier in west St.
Catharines. It can be observed from 5th Avenue Louth between 3rd Street
Louth and 1st Street Louth. My wife and I observed today (Jan. 5) at 3:15

On Friday January 4 at Thickson's Woods in Whitby, I saw some interesting birds
from late afternoon to dusk. If you walk the road along the north side of the
woods, down past the corner, you reach a beaver dam where Corbett Creek flows
through a culvert under the road. Near the dam, there was

Today at Kortright Centre, on the trail near "The Sugar Bush Shop" which
starts in the middle of three trail heads, where bird feeders are placed, I
took my new scope for a run-through. It was the perfect day to compare DOWNY
and HAIRY WOODPECKERS, there were several individuals, ma

I went looking for them and found them at 1pm and watched them for 30 min. They
were feeding in an open field near a drainage ditch. It appears they are of the

There is a Blue morph Snow Goose in the Welland River at the Merritt Island
Park. Also spotted there was Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser and Bufflehead.

Many mature golden eyes and One American Kestrel by the Hamilton harbor.
Follow Van wagners (beach strip Hamilton) till you hit Burlington lift bridge.
The ducks are in the canal and the kestrel was seen on the power towers.

At Lasalle Park in Burlington a few interesting species were observed. The
most noteworthy i thought was a flock of about 50-100 Canvasback that were
located east of the boat lauch just off the islands. Other notable finds were
American Coot and 3 Carolina Wrens heard and seen calling on the
