Hi Everyone!
Found a Northern Hawk Owl today at 10:30am at Flynn's Corners, west of
Buckhorn. It was very alert and sitting on top of a roadside tree (E side of
the highway).
Also observed an adult Bald Eagle hunting in the open water below the dam in
Buckhorn.

Hi Everyone
Yesterday afternoon and this morning I birded Amherst Island. Yesterday, late
afternoon, I observed 12 Short-eared Owls along the road into the Owl Woods on
the north side. They were sitting in the trees as I drove to the parking area.
In the Owl Woods I observed 1 Boreal Owl, 1 Nor
I sent this out this morning but it must have gotten lost in the server
transfer at Ontbirds .. so here it is again ...

Hi Birders,
After being told several times that there are no Boreals around I
persevered and finally found one in the SW section of the Jack Pine
plantation. The bird was about 3m up in a Jack Pine.
I am on the island as I type this and found 5 Saw-whets (2 in Pine
plantation, nr South end, 2 in

There is a Northern Hawk Owl W of Buckhorn at Flynn's Corners. Observed at
10:30am and again on the return trip at 1:30pm. Also saw an adult Bald Eagle
hunting in the open water below the dam in Buckhorn.
Directions: From Buckhorn, travel W on Hwy 36 to Flynns Corners, where Hwy 5

Winter, including results from last weekend's CBC's. This updated list is

The 15th annual Huntsville Christmas Bird
Count was held on Tuesday, December 16.
There were a few flurries in the morning,
but birding conditions were good. Fairy
and Mary Lakes had much open water, and
the Muskoka River was open. Knee-deep
snow made off-road travel difficult.
Total Species: 41 (
The hawk-owl was still present on Ridge road just west of the 2 log homes on
the north side west of the Vankleekhill sales barn as of 4:30 Dec.16.It was
actively hunting from the tall tree tops on both sides of the road.

In my report on our visit, I said that others had reported two Saw Whet Owls
in the cedars by the feeders. One of those individuals has now sent me an
e-mail to say that they had mis-identified the birds, and has sent photos
taken there. The photos are in fact of Boreal Owls, so there were two

Winter listers;
Just got a call from John Lamey about an adult ivory gull at Sir Adam beck
this afternoon.Managed to find 4 others birders fromQuelph and took them
back and they all saw this bird.
The slaty-backed was also seen on the wall just down from the weir.
