Goose watching continues to be productive in the Ottawa Area with a total of 6
species today. At 1:15 p.m. there were 2 adult Ross's Geese feeding on the
west side of Milton Road just north of Perrault Road in a flock of Canada
Geese. Near St. Albert 5 Snow Geese and 2 Cackling

A late day stop at Andrew Haydon Park turned out to be a
good idea. Ran into 2 people photographing at one of the ponds. Barb
Robertson and Colleen Murray directed my attention to a Greater White-Fronted
Goose just to the left. It was feeding with many of

Hello everyone:
I arrived early at Algonquin (around 7:30am) and was delighted to find a pair
of BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS boring into a telephone pole between Kilometers
54-55. Judging by the number of holes in most of the poles there, I would say
the woodpeckers frequent this area.
Next I
Medium N wind and great thermals were greatly appreciated by up to 10 observers
at CMRW
over 6.5 hrs. on Wednesday,Oct.14. Geoff Carpentier, as counter, was kept
alert. He and his team
enjoyed identifying many high-flying TVs and RTs as they flew in from Thickson
Pt. right over our
heads. Later

We went to both Reesor ponds today.
Upper Reesor was clear and cold. We saw the Sandpipers: I don't know if one
was a Dunlin...I will bow to wiser heads but two of the Sandpipers were much
the same size. Whether the bill was down-curved I will have to check my,
very distant, photograph
