Hello Ontbirders,
The juvenile Sabine's Gull is still present at Deschenes Rapids this morning.
It can clearly be seen from our balcony, feeding closely with a Bonaparte's
Gull.
It was there intermittently most of yesterday afternoon, and into evening.
It seems to prefer the area immediately

The juv. Sabine's Gull continues to fed below Deschenes Rapids spending most of
its time on the Quebec side near the cement structure. It can be viewed from
Britannia Point or Deschenes Lookout along the Ottawa River Parkway. The best
viewing is from below Deschenes Rapids where it
Following up on Jason Putnam's report from yesterday, I checked the area around
12:30 today and found two Sandhill cranes. They were in a farmer's field on the
east side of Crowland Road, just north of Schisler Road.
Directions from QEW: take Lyons Creek Rd. exit, go west on Biggar Rd.
West of Sturgeon Falls on highway 17 I took the turn to Cache Bay, where there
was a Belted Kingfisher and Raven. I
left Cache Bay on Levac road and turned south on Guenetta Road. South of the
railway tracks there were over 100 Cranes
flying, mainly on the west, so I went to Laplage Road, the

This morning (Monday) before the rains came Bill Smith and I birded the
Mount Hope area sod farms and saw the following birds in the sod fields
behind the former school house on Unity Road.

This evening Ben and I birded the Deschenes Rapids from 5:50pm to 7:15pm and
observed 2 juv. Sabine's Gulls. A lifer for Ben. One was feeding below the
rapids while a second bird flew west past us at 6:50pm. We stayed till dusk and
counted 16 Lesser black-backed Gulls (various
At 5:15 this afternoon , Tom Devecseri, showed my wife Dawn and I 26 sandhill
cranes intermingling with a large flock of Canada geese south of Smith Rd. in
Navan. They are in great color and quite active as we saw several sparring with
each other. This seems to be a roosting spot as they are
