Not 5 minutes after my previous post, an adult Yellow-crowned Night Heron flew
past and circled around before landing somewhere in the reeds on the north side
of the dyke (opposite of where the avocet is)! I heard it again at 8:20 calling
but due to the lack of light I could not locate it. See b
At 7:30 this evening I found a basic plumaged American Avocet along the Couture
Dyke in the eastern part of Hillman Marsh, Essex County. Crappy digiscoped
photos taken. It is still present now at dusk.

The hawk migration report for HBMO on September 11, 2012 mistakenly referred to
28 Evening Grosbeaks passing over the hawk tower. The number had been entered
in error onto the daily passerine check list. It was supposed to have been an
additional 28 American Goldfinch.

Hey Birders.
I am still attempting to get better looks, photos, etc. It is an adult large
gull. Appears most like a Herring in all respects that i have noticed other
than that the mantle color is very obviously shaded too gray. Conclusions thus
far? Either a hybrid LBBGxHEGU or something else..
A bit challenging watching hawks when there weren't any --- well very few.

A Carolina Wren was singing and easily seen in the shrubs at the west
end of the ridge/dyke at Mud Lake, Britannia Conservation Area, this
morning from 8:00 - 8:30. This is a minor rarity of local interest.

This morning from 0629 to 0643, I observed four Great Egrets roosting on
the mudflats/shallow water on the north side of a grassy island in the
Hespeler Millpond just out from the Ellacott Lookout (235 Queen St.) .

Yesterday after checking out the salmon being lifted above a dam in
Bowmanville I checked the water at the parking lot and flushed out a small
crow that was by the water. I didn't think anything about it till it called
- and then realized it was a FISH CROW!
