Exploring the maze of roads in and around the Holland Marsh (south end of Lake
Simcoe) near Bradford, along both sides of Hwy. 400, and north to Ravenshoe
Road produced some good winter birding (20 spp.).

During the NF CBC, our group (John Black, Denys Gardiner, Philip Downey, Jean
Hampson & Bob Highcock) viewed an adult male King Eider from Jones Beach in
Port Weller East (St. Catharines). The adult male was amongst some Common
Mergansers near the red and white beacon at the entrance to
At the crossroads in the path just before you get to the viewing platform in
the Pond, there are two recycling bins. Directly behind them there are a few
tallish long needled conifers, and this fellow was about six feet off the
ground at ~ 4:15 PM Dec 27.

Twice in the past week, I've observed a goshawk at the Spit. Once was a
fly-by and a landing in the distance (1 week ago), and yesterday, I saw it
briefly perched in a tree. It then flew off, tree to tree, just as a
