Hi all,
The Bullock's Oriole made repeated trips to the Apple tree at the end of
Dalkeith Street in Pakenham between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM. It always flew off in
a southerly direction down the rail trail between visits.

Just spotted (3:25pm) an adult breeding Great Cormorant flying west past the
wave tower at Van Wagner's beach. Appeared roughly same size as Double-crested,
with which it was flying. However most obvious was the white flank patch, the
reason it caught my attention in the first place. Couldn't
the size, and the
fact we didn't see any white in the face. Also, I also learned that most Great
Cormorants lose the white flank patch by mid-summer.
Thanks to those who emailed me privately.

Hi all,
This afternoon, Burke Korol (from Barrie) and David ___?___ (from London)
re-found one of the Pacific Loons reported a couple days earlier. My son and I
were grateful to have them show it to us as well. The bird was visible from
Minet Point Park, on the south side of the bay.
With the continued strong westerly winds, my son William and I decided to look
for Sabines Gull at Fort Erie as a few had been observed a couple days before.
We checked sites between Mather Park and the Catherine Street parking lot with
mostly little luck. We did had 4 Little Gulls in total
This morning, my son William and I drove up to the Luther Marsh area to try and
see some of the Sandhill Cranes that were reported. Along the way we saw a
Snowy Owl NE of Metz (along 5th LIne, north of the York Soaring Association).
Also at that location was a female Northern Harrier hunting
Hi all,
I saw the male Barrow's Goldeneye yesterday afternoon (Sunday March 2nd) at
about 5:35 p.m. from the location noted by Andrew Keaveney in Washago, north of
Orillia (see below). It is possible it was there earlier but there were lots of
Common Goldeneye to look through (400 - 500,
This morning, my son William and I drove north in search of the previously
reported Northern Hawk Owl east of North Bay. For those still pondering whether
to go and look for it, I can confirm that it is still present at 688 Ouellette
Road. We saw it at the top of a tree right next to the house,
Shortly after noon, William and I refound the adult male KING EIDER reported by
John Black at Port Weller on Friday. We tried for it on the lake opposite the
entrance to the marina but had no luck. We eventually found it in the canal
amongst a group of about 100 mostly Common Mergansers.
After seeing the Ross' Goose at the Welland Canal in Port Colborne this
afternoon with a number others, my son and I decided to head towards
Fisherville in hopes of seeing Short-eared Owls. With the snow coming down
pretty good and the light fading quick we were not sure we could make it there
While out surveying a property in Concord today, a colleague of mine and I
flushed a Barred Owl. When we first saw it, we only caught a glimpse of it
flying away. Not expecting a Barred Owl at all, I had assumed that it must of
been a Great Horned Owl. Shortly after our first encounter, we
Hi all,
While conducting a survey last night in Aberfoyle (south of Guelph) I had a
Northern Saw-shet Owl respond to the playback of Barred Owl calls. It called
repeatedly for close to 5 minutes. The habitat in the area seems suitable,
however, hearing the distant roar of Hwy 401 always makes
The Black-bellied Whistling-Duck was present this morning (Sunday July 25th)
between 5:35 and 6:20 a.m. It was sitting on the berm with the Mallards when I
left.

Hi all,
Even though they are being reported more and more frequently in the GTA area, I
was pleased to hear and see a Common Raven near Britannia Rd. and Tremaine Rd.,
on the west side of Milton on June 15th. It circled around overhead and headed
back in the direction of the Escarpment.
After the Phainopepla was rediscovered at 92 Addington Crescent at around 3:30
p.m., it disappeared behind the houses to the north. I re-found it in front of
17 Aberdeen Crescent where it dove into a yew bush under the house number.
There it was present for about 1 hour, giving mostly

Hi all,
Just thought I would mention that I heard a Northern Saw-whet Owl call
about a half-dozen times in a row while conducting a nocturnal
amphibian call survey (i.e. frog survey) on the southwest edge of
Orangeville tonight (June 12th). I heard it on the Caledon-East

Hi all,
In addition to the Yellow-throated Warbler I observed yesterday
morning (April 19) with my son at 17 North Hills Terrace, Don Mills, I
also observed a single Bohemian Waxwing at 78 North Hills Terrace. It,
along with about 17 Cedar Waxwings, appeared to be sipping on sap
oozing
Hi,
My wife Kathy and I had 21 Bohemian Waxwings opposite 76 North Hills
Terrace in Don Mills (part of Toronto) at 2:30 p.m., Easter Sunday.
This is the first time we have ever seen them in the City. It sounded
like the whole group was singing. Nice indeed.

Hi all,
Today while conducting the 82nd Toronto Christmas Bird Count (what a
wet one!), Ken McIlwrick discovered a non-breeding plumage Brewer's
Blackbird at a feeder in Pine Hills Cemetery. We watched the bird for
close to half an hour as it fed on seeds below the feeder in the rain.

Hi all,
I decided to look for the dove again this morning and easily heard it
at the same location. However, armed with more familiarity with their
song, I can now say that the bird does NOT sound like a Eurasian
Collared Dove after all, but more like a Ringed Turtle Dove. It did

Hi,
This morning (8:30 a.m.) I was surprised to heard a dove call that
wasn't a Mourning Dove. I heard it at the intersection of Inverness
Drive and Balmoral Drive in the northeast part of Guelph. More
specifically, it was heard calling from the backyard of the house
immediately west of
Hi all,
My wife spotted two Common Ravens being dive-bombed by several
American Crows, south of Pontypool this afternoon (March 16). More
specifically, they were observed just south of where highways 35 and
115 split, opposite a roadside stop. This is the second time we have
seen Ravens

For those of you who are still interested in looking for this bird,
