I was pleasantly surprised to find a small flock of 5 female Pine Grosbeaks
feeding in my Chanticlear Pear tree this morning.Newmarket is accessible via
the 404 exiting at Davis Dr. or the 400 exiting at Hwy 9/Davis Dr.From the 400

Just had a flock of roughly a dozen Pine Grosbeaks feeding on crabapples on the
University of Guelph campus. All immature males and/or females. Fairly tame
birds so you can get fairly close to them. Lots of crabapples here so they'll
probably stick around for a little bit.

Following up on S Bodach's Friday post, we found 15 pine grosbeaks at the
Seneca College King Campus at noon today. The birds were on the lawns and at a
crabapple, all near the westerlydrop-off/ bus stop turning circle and east 100

While walk the trails behind Bell High School in Nepean in western Ottawa I I
photographed a flock of about 20 female Pine Grosbeaks feeding on crab apples.
There were few Aimerican Robins around as well. Shortly afterwards a flock of
about 80-100 Bohemian Waxwings came in to feed as well.
We saw a flock of Pine Grosbeaks at noon today in Merrickville. They were
feeding in crab apple trees behind the Yellow Canoe Restaurant at the main
intersection (Main Street and St. Lawrence St.). See pictures at

Today at 10:30 am I watched a group of 5-6 Pine Grosbeaks feeding at the top of
some large spruce trees, at Km 4 of the Red Trail.
One member of the group sang for about a minute. When I returned to the car
park a single bird of the same species flew over.

On an afternoon walk, I was surprised and delighted to encounter a small flock,
all female, of five Pine Grosbeaks feeding at close range along Lingham Lake
Rd. near Cooper, north of Madoc.As an American recently moved up here, this was
my first time seeing this species in North America,
One male and three female or juvenile pine grosbeaks have started coming to
black oil sunflower feeders daily. They were coming mid afternoon but today
they arrived at 9:30am. The grey jay feeding pattern is decreasing at the
suet feeder. They visit in the mid afternoon.
