While on a wild goose chase today (unsuccessful), I found six snowy owls south
of Mitchell's Bay. Four were in fields near the intersection of Winter Line Rd.
(Chatham-Kent Road 34) and Marsh Line. Two more were in fields off Angler Line,

Erwin Meissner just called to say that 14 Snowy Owls were seen today in the
Gore Bay area of Manitoulin Island - most were very lightly marked to "snow
white" individuals indicating that they hatched before this year.
Erwin said there was a Northern Hawk-Owl in the Massey area (west of
Sudbury) a
Ron Fleming’s positive post on Holland Marsh Snowy Owls this past Sunday (he
saw 9) was likely the end for this year. The fields are all a huge black muck
pudding, no place for a Snowy to feel at home. Though I suspected to find none,

Roused from my winter torpor by Frank Pinilla's recent post, I ventured out to
the Holland Marsh west of Newmarket after work today and put in a solid two
hours of scanning the tundra-like landscape for Snowy Owls. The weather was
absolutely balmy and the visibility was great. I found six Snowie
Over the past several days, a couple of Snowy Owls have been fairly regular
around the Essex Sewage Treatment facility. One adult & one Immature. The
adult favours the berm/embankment around the sewage lagoon during the day. It
is also seen sitting in the adjacent fields sometimes with a few

At 2:30 pm today I saw a dark Snowy in one field and a light Snowy just one
field north. Location is Eight Line between Brittania and Derry Roads on the
east side. Still there when I checked again an hour later. they are quite far
in, between two farms; you'll need binos.Frederick

east of Ottawa. The greatest number were located in the general
WInchester-Chesterville area and from Casselman east to St. Isidore. Most
birds were located along roads atop telephone or power poles or on silos.

Three of the well-documented snowy owls at Presqu'ile Provincial Park were
visible on Sunday.
One was seen from the Park Office Viewing Platform, soaring and swooping over
the frozen marshes.
The other two were seen along the Owen Point Trail, one on the beach and the
other on the shore of Gu
2 snowy owls were on the ground in fields between Concession D and E around
11:30am, near point pelee national park. They were in the middle between the
concessions, not near a road.
The Great Gray owl was by 1182 road 2 west of Kingsville, in a tree it was also

On 31 March, Dave Moore, Cliff Hodder and I visited Pigeon, Snake and
Salmon Islands by boat, 3-10 miles sw offshore from Kingston. We flushed
1 Snowy Owl from Pigeon Island, 3 Snowies from Snake Island and 2 from
Salmon. There were no Herring Gulls on any of the islands

Naturalists' Club to look for winter birds in the agricultural area around Ste.
Rose in Eastern Ontario.

Today, my wife Lynne and I set out to see some snowy owls near Ste-Rose.
We had read about Concession road 20, and were greeted by one owl atop a
post between county road 8 and Ste-Rose road.
There was a sign with number 84 below the post. We drove around, and
saw four more scattered around.
Today we found three snowy owls on Base Line Rd west of 95 on Wolfe island.

Yesterday I had three Snowy Owls, likely males, interacting with each
other beside the runways at Pearson Airport in Toronto. Definitely a
good sign there are/will be lots of Snowies this winter.

morning on Concession 20 Rd. I also saw a second one on this same road and

It started at about 7:40am with two Rough-legged Hawks flying south
over the Ottawa River at Petrie Island.

Yesterday while birding near Mitchell's Bay, came across two very white
Snowy Owls near Mitchell's Bay, south of Wallaceburg, northwest of Chatham.
They were out in the fields on either side of Mallard Line, sitting on the
ground or on posts. Both were likely males due to striking white colour.
