I did the updateflash.org thing for both IE 8 and Firefox 4 and it said I'm up
to date, but the version mentioned is lower than what is listed on the Adobe

No, no, you don't have to uninstall Adobe Flash Player. Just install it
using Ninite Installer, and you will be up-to-date without any of the
hassles of downloading it from the Adobe site.
