Oh I've already experienced the type of problem you describe. I usually get around this by going into computer braille to create things like aliases, trying to make sure that the letters I use for their names aren't abreviations or contractions. For instance, the next time I do log in, if I can man
I strongly suspect a Perkins-style keyboard will curse you in many
interesting and unexpected ways when trying to play Alter Aeon (or any
mud). A capital sign is probably being read as an apostraphy for
example, and a lot of the commands you'll type would normally register
as contractions.

The character already exists, so you can only log it in. You can't create
a new character with that name, because it already exists.
If you want to reset the character, log in with your email instead, and
select the restart option.

into something else (like an exclamation mark if you're using the "the"
