There is an alternative of using the up/down arrows, and that is to
use the C-n/C-p keys; as in Emacs.
From (grub)Command-line interface
C-n
PC down key
Move down through the history list.

I reserved a small space on the beginning of drive for GRUB. On first
partition is Windows installed. Do I have to create a partition for the
Grub's files or is there a way how to put it into the unpartitioned space?
How would I do it?

grub uses the bios order. if you choose to boot from a different disk
the bios order changes.
