I can't think of any similar "beginner easy" jigs to recommend. If you want any of the
above and need the sheet music "yesterday" email me and I can send you jpg's or pdf's
Thanks for all the comments! I'm no longer worried about the carpet. It now
sounds better than the lumps, trees, and mosquitoes outside. I'm counting on
having fun either way.Cheers, Sue R.
I've agreed to call a wedding reception dance this summer, outside on
more-or-less flattish ground. Having practically memorized all the wonderful
advise on the list about weddings and grass I'm comfortable with that. But if
the weather doesn't cooperate, the gig moves inside the Inn/Dining/Bar
In the B2 of the dance, Microchase you say "Turn Single (spacer if needed.")
Is that because there's music left over after the arch and all thru?
Yes, I'd simply changed from the Contra Corners in the original to DoSiDos but
almost always had time left so ended up adding the TS. I like your a

Hi Rich,
Small numbers are common here, especially this winter. Here are some dances
that have worked well for me:
LONGWAYS - even cpls
DoSiThree - Linda Leslie (3 - 5 cpls)
Snowball - Martin Hayes (3 - 4 cpls)
Waves of Tory, or Ted's Dip & Dive (Triplet #3) - Ted Sane
n the middling range.
Recommendations appreciated!

surprise me with what they can do
(and can't) do. It depends on your dancers of course and the dance atmosphere,
but I've found as long as we laugh and have a good time even the meltdowns can
add to the evening. It's the fun that counts, not the dance.

Hi,
I've been asked to teach some dances in a local elementary school. It would
be grade by grade. Any suggestions/advice? I've called Family Dances but not
schools and am a bit hesitant. I'll have a fiddler for music.
Thanks for any help!

oth great dances, but I'd like to get the names right if possible. Any
help sorting this out would be appreciated!
Also, on the "Lowest Pull Out" dance above, which Star first have you found
to work best (Right Hand or Left Hand)?
Thanks much,
Sue Robishaw, U.P. MI
ecause the bands and callers are usually also
contracted for other performances at the festival. There have been in
the past a few single dance events where the caller was paid $50-75.
Bands may be paid $200-500.

ur way all is fine and everyone is happy. But I'd
like to be better at getting the dancers comfortably in a quadrille/square formation when
it is new for many. Any suggestions?

PS - I'll add my vote for Snowball. The AABB versi
they
particularly like? Having had the experience of calling to a rather
amorphous (phrase wise) tune set put together by wonderful musicians
but non dancers, I'd like to recommend for our group some good, solid
core tune sets for a starting repertoire.
Thanks!

re experienced dancers too (as a dancer)
The Irish Haymaker's Jig is fun but having danced it with a friend
calling the more Irish version I'd suggest simplifying the first part
to just forward and back. The rest is do-able and fun with a lively
crowd.

A thanks of great appreciation for all who put up videos of their Money
Musk dances. Having read about this dance for years, never seen it,
never danced it, certainly never called it, it was so nice to see the
dance (so that's how it looks!), if only via the airwaves. Someday it

Thanks so much to everyone for replying with good and practical

at your usual contra dance, but at "family dance" events (longways and
such).

Does anyone know of a list similar to this one for those involved
