Petronella. I try to point out how joyful it is for me going over the right
shoulder but i wonder if it is nature VS nurture when I see it
I have often thought that contra and round dancing had in common a person who
cues/prompts ahead of the phrase of music. MWS dancers who Round dancer would
be able to relate to that...

I am NOT "progressive". It is another loaded term in my opinion. To assume
most of the (silent) people on this list serv are progressive
is...probably true!
I am sensitive to people's dignity and would not intentionally offend anyone.

I agree with your point on obscurity with newer dancers, Michael. I also feel
some of the names (and I hope this is taken well) de-humanizes the roles.
Jets, Rubys, corners are references to things or positions rather than people.
I know this does not solve the problem at hand and may not be
Folklife is coming up in Seattle this weekend. Looking for dances with
Petronella's in the "A" part of the dance (besides the original). I came up
with Heart Beat Contra, Cure for the Claps & Barberella. Any others top of

When it comes to calling the last time through have any bands complained? Some
may view that as their finale. Ok if you are changing it to a longer partner

Hi Martha!
My thought is 5 times through with full calls and 3 times thru with short
prompts. If the band is playing a 2 tune set I might stick around after the
tune switch. Sometime the excitement of a new tune will wonderfully "distract"
the dancers. In an ideal world in a 3 tune set I
This dance was written by Adam Carlson for a dance he was calling with the
Seattle band Tapsalteerie. He also wrote another ricochet dance called Queen

I totally agree with Greg on cutting the low frequencies. I also appreciate
the info on ringing out the room. I have wondered: do men need to hear higher
frequencies and women not so much?
