Each day I've had 3 C Redpolls at my feeders. Today I have a flock of about
15. I still have large flocks of Juncos and Tree Sparrows. The regulars are
still coming as well. One new bird today was a Cowbird. It's a very busy day
at the feeders.

My flock of Redpolls continues to grow. I'd guess it's up to 30 by now. Donna
called her feeders a mob scene. Mine are like that too. I've got hundreds of
birds milling around the feeders at once, so it's very hard to actually count a
specific species. I also had two male Bluebirds out on
I find it interesting that they eat Niger seed at your house and Sally's. At
mine they eat black oilseed, even though Niger is a choice. I only see
Goldfinches and House Finches on the Niger. Years ago when I had Redpolls,
they ate the Niger seed.

It was here again this morning. It's very interesting to watch its behavior.
I first spotted it this morning sitting on a birdhouse below my bedroom window.

My Cooper's Hawk has made counting birds for the Backyard Bird Count
impossible. It's been here each day, so no birds are coming to the feeders.
Yesterday it took a female Cardinal. This morning it sat in the weeping pine
where the feeders are located from at least 7:15 to 8:30. I was amazed

The Montezuma wildlife drive is open up to the spillway. The water is all
frozen. There were gulls sitting on the ice as well as two juvenile Bald
Eagles. Other Bald Eagles were sitting on the far side of the river
silhouetted by the sun. I also spotted a Harrier checking out the marsh. Ther
I thought I'd forward this since its a rare sighting. I'll forward any
updates. Being its a goose, who knows how long it will stay in that area.

Just had my FOS White Crowned Sparrow. Yesterday I found a Ruby Crowned
Kinglet down by the creek on my property. Saw the pair of Purple Finches just
sitting quietly, for a long time, down by the creek as well.

I put out my jelly and oranges two days ago because the Oriole should be

I was at the Wildlife Drive yesterday, and there were almost no shorebirds. Way

Just got back from Mays Point to photograph the woodpeckers. A baby was
sitting its head out quite often. There were even some food exchanges. One
time I caught the parent with two grapes. When I look at my images I may find
insects too. The baby was most active between 9-10. You can only

parents certainly don't go to the hole with food as often as you would think
they should. Of course, we don't know how many young they are feeding.

Yesterday while photographing the Red Headed Woodpeckers and young, my friend
John Garofalo took and interesting picture which I would like people to look at
and comment on. In the picture you will see a parent looking out of what we
have believed to be the only nest hole. In a tree to the rig

I found the Snowy on Martin Rd. today. I called the number for the Lott Farm
and got no response. It may be because of the holidays. I also found the

I had a spring treat early this morning. There were 3 Bluebirds squabbling
over a nest box. There were two males for sure, but I could only find one
female. There may have been another female that I couldn't find in those low
light levels. My Bluebirds have to battle the House Sparrows for a

Just had a fly over from a male Northern Harrier! I haven't seen one in my
neighborhood since a house was built on the lot next door, so maybe in 13
years. Last time I saw one locally it was on the polo field in Skaneateles in
winter several years ago. It flew back across Rt. 20 to the farm t

around noon. Lots of gulls. It sounded as if I were at the ocean. There were

I was at Montezuma this morning and when I got to Tschacke Pool there was an
eagle jam along the road. The Eagle was sitting right next to the tower It had
a plumage that I had never seen before. I assume it's an juvenile Bald Eagle.

It seems the Osprey have reclaimed their former nest at Mud Lock. It's nice
that they have returned to their former nesting site. With so many Osprey
around I figured a pair would claim it sooner or later.
The Osprey pair on the rt. 89 bridge have begun to rebuild their nest on the

A pair of Osprey are trying to build a nest on the power structure at the

When I used to photograph the Bald Eagles at Mud Lock, I saw House Sparrows
within the Eagle's nest as well, so I wasn't too surprised to hear that they do

Had another even larger flock of blackbirds. There were mostly Grackles but I
found four Red-Wing Blackbirds mixed in. FOS for me. I also heard a Robin
singing. Spring must be coming!

Since other people have mentioned getting Song Sparrows, I've been on the watch
for one at my feeders. Tonight, one showed up. FOS for me. Yesterday I had
another FOS- a Turkey Vulture on rt 41A.
Yesterday was serendipitous for me. I was backing into the garage and glanced
up and there was
bird, not the whole breast. The
rest of the breast has spots the color of the back of the bird.

that starlings would pick "bugs" off animals in that way,
either. A new starling behavior for me as well.

or quite a while for one to land in my crabapple,
though I have seen both the Cooper's and Sharpie around the yard all
winter, none has been out front.

k jaw marks, but no distinct streaks. Am I right?-a swamp
sparrow. Could some of you take a look at the two images on my

Just had a new "fly-over" yard bird- a pair of swans. I'm wondering if all
Auburn's birds flew to Ithaca for the CBC. The feeders were empty yesterday
and not much better today, so far . Did have 4 robins yesterday.
