I thought the Orthodox Church was first, with Catholicism breaking with it
around 900AD. Then the Lutherans, Anglicans etc breaking off during the
Reformation. The other schismatics happened later.

Maybe, but I know a group of SF writers who dressed as jedi during a recent
convention that took place during the whole jedi religion controversy. One
