You can usually only get a clearance either through military service, or being offered a job with a company that needs it.  They pay to have DSS do your background investigation. Things that will keep you from getting a clearance: Extreme drug use Felony Convictions Tax or debit problems.

Congratulations.  It is not often that a company will create a slot for you while a clearance is pending.  They are doing a you a great favor.  Once the clearance is issued, talk about job security!  you will pretty well have it made. That was my experience when I was working for a DoD contractor
