Amen, +1000 to Duane's post. I'm in an identical situation here.
Two very different, very good languages.there is no sense in dismissing
either one. Much better to learn as much as you can about both and apply
them where they make the most sense.

I was just about to reply with Amen when I saw your post.
And it goes a lot deeper than that on our side. The business-wide solutions
you can create using the entire .NET stack are
And let's not forget another important fact. Knowing multiple languages
makes you more marketable which means better employment opportunities.

I'll learn D when Microsoft releases it.
It,and its development environment, will bury .Net and all their other languages.

I code in both CF and .Net - there iare no one to one equivalences.
It takes about 4 to 5 times as long to do a task .net as it does in CF.
..Net programmers are going to cost you more per hour than CF
programmers with equivelent experience and will take many more hours
to get the work done.
Forget about .NET. Get some coders who know other languages and train them
in CF development. Anyone who know OOP and scripting can learn enough CF in
a few weeks to be productive.

We are having trouble finding CF coders in our area so are thinking about
employing .net instead and moving across. I have spent the last 24 hours
pulling my hair out trying to do the simplest tasks in .net and am getting
nowhere, as far as I can tell it is a great language for complex

It's a shame that you have to base your choice of a platform on worker
availability instead of on technical considerations for the app.
It is a real shame, but there seems to be a real shortage out there right
now. We've got about 3 positions we could fill *right now* but can't even
get a
list you are on is usually pretty good too.

There's always the option of hiring telecommuters.. may not be in your
area but if you're comfortable with it, it'd open up a lot of choice
for you.

As someone who went through a dry spell of being able to find work a few
years back, I have to wonder if it's not for some of the same reasons you
can't find any 'decent' applicants: maybe what you're looking for in

Yea, we have several telecommuters working around the country (literally)
and some dev firm in Belarus (blech). While they work out for the most
part, they are too expensive to keep on long-term and not being able to be
in the office at least once every couple weeks is quite a hindrance.

That is interesting. I had no idea there was a CF labor shortage out there.
I've been hearing this a lot actually. Even just finding good experienced
freelancers in CF seems to be getting harder, let alone finding good fulltime
applicants.
You think people are starting to buy into the CF is
